Nelson finished his career as one of the most decorated pitchers to ever take the mound for the Seton Hill baseball program.  He earned all conference and all region honors after his junior season and his name can still be found throughout the Seton Hill record book.

As a junior Matt was named a first team All WVIAC selection as well as a second team NCBWA All Region selection.  His ten wins on the mound that season are still a Seton Hill single season record.  He also holds a single season record for innings pitched, throwing 97 innings in the 2006 season where he won eight games with six complete games and 81 strikeouts.  Those marks are all top eight in SHU single season history.  Nelson finished his career with 27 wins, which was the most in SHU history until it was broken in the 2015 season.  He is second in career innings pitched, third in complete games, tied for third in appearances and fourth in strikeouts.

After graduation, Nelson attended the Golf Academy of America in Myrtle Beach, SC.  He then spent three years as the assistant golf pro at Shannopin Country Club in Pittsburgh.  For the past five years he has been in the oil and gas industry, working at Rice Energy.  He still plays baseball with fellow Griffins for the Snappers in the summer.  He currently resides in Houston, PA.
