Seton Hill football coach Joel Dolinski has announced his recruiting class for the 2011 football season. The Griffins were 2-9 last season and are looking to make an improvement during the 2011 season using this talented recruiting class. The class includes:
Adam Ward- 6?5?, 262 lb. Offensive Line. North Allegheny H.S. Pittsburgh, PA
Ward played right and left tackle for the 2010 North Allegheny PIAA Quad A State Champions. North Allegheny Head Coach Art Walker stated that Ward is an intelligent player who is yet to reach his full potential. He resides in Marshall Township, Allegheny County, with his parents Vick and Patti Ward and his younger sisters Ashley and Autumn. He plans to major in biology and go to medical school.
Zachary Buffkin- 6?4?, 265 lb. Offensive Line. Langley H.S. McLean, VA
Buffkin played right tackle for Langley High School in McLean, Virginia under Coach John Howerton. He lettered two years in Football and Track at Langley. He was also named 2nd Team All Liberty District at Offensive Tackle. Zach is a tough; physical football player that looks to make an immediate impact on the offensive line at Seton Hill. He was born October 4, 1992. Son of Mark and Beverly Buffkin. He plans to major in Business.
Vidal Morgan- 6?5?, 310 lb. Offensive Line. Perry Traditional Academy Pittsburgh, PA
Morgan played right tackle for the 11-2 Pittsburgh City League Champion Perry Traditional Academy Commodores and Head Coach Bill Gallagher. He was named to the All-City Team. Morgan was the key cog in the offensive line that helped his team to an undefeated conference title run. Morgan was also the recipient of the Student Athlete Award from Steel City Sports. He plans to major in Criminal Justice.
Phil Roberts- 6?3?, 272 lb. Offensive Line. Schenley H.S. Pittsburgh, PA
Roberts played for Schenley High School and started on the Offensive Line at tackle for the last two years of the schools? history. He was instrumental in bringing one more City League Championship to Schenley during his junior year. His offensive line coach Lester Campbell always said his biggest strength was his versatility and mind for the game. Philip has played numerous positions throughout his high school career but found his calling at offensive tackle. He lives in Highland Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with his mother Lisa, father Paul and sister Nicole. Philip plans on majoring in Business, Sport Management, and then attend Law School.
Keith McCauley- 6?3?, 212 lb. Defensive End. Maurice McDonough H.S., MD
McCauley played right and left defensive end for the 2010 Maurice J. McDonough High, Maryland 2A State Champions. He earned 2 Team All-State Defense for Maryland 1A and 2A divisions. Head coach Luke Ethington stated that McCauley is an intelligent player with tremendous upside and has yet reached his full potential. Coach Ethington also expressed to the Maryland Independent Newspaper that ?McCauley was a force on defense that had to be reckoned with?. McCauley was a vital member on one of the top rated defenses in the state of Maryland. In the state championship game against Middletown, McCauley stood out with 2 sacks with one creating a fumble and 3 solo tackles and a number of assisted tackles. Dallas Cogle a sports reporter for the Maryland Independent Newspaper stated that ? he caused the media contingency in the stadium?s press box to look for his name on the McDonough roster when he started making one impact play after another on the season?s biggest stage?, the state finals. He also went on to say that the ?McDonough defensive end, who proved Ray Lewis is not the only No. 52 at the Baltimore Ravens confines that can wreak havoc on opposing offenses?. McCauley finished the season with 79 tackles 31 solo and 48 assisted, 16 of those tackles were for losses, 11 sacks 8 solo and 3 assisted and 2 forced fumbles and 1 deflection. He accomplished this in 6 regular season games and 4 playoff games including the finals. Keith also earned 2 varsity letters as he was a starter his junior and senior seasons. He was born on 23 November 1992 in Merced, CA. Son of Keith and Paula, an Air Force Senior Master Sergeant. He plans to major in Business Management.
Arthur Tsapdong- 6?3?, 270 lbs. Defensive End. Montgomery Blair H.S. ,MD
Tsapdong played defensive end for Head Coach Jeffrey Seals at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Maryland. Arthur started both ways his senior year at defensive end and offensive guard. He received 1st Team All-County (Montgomery County). Tsapdong was also named Montgomery County 4A All-League Selection (The Washington Post). Had 60 Tot, 10 sacks, 24 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, 4 pass deflections; offensively had 51 pancake/knockdown blocks. Tsapdong is an extremely intelligent, strong, tough, reliable player; a workhorse; a BEAST. He is one of the most gifted athletes with quickness and speed for his size. Arthur plays with a very high-motor and never takes a play off. He is from Hyattsville, Maryland proud parents of Beatrice Tsapdong and Eric Fotang.
Travis Karenbauer- 6?2? 315 lbs. Offensive Line Ellwood City H.S., PA
Karenbauer is from Ellwood City Lincoln Jr. /Sr. High School, proud parents of Robert and Dana Karenbauer. He has played football for 6 years. Started both ways at Ellwood City and lettered all three years he has played varsity football. His senior year he was voted Unanimous Top 22 for the offensive line, Top 22 for the defensive line. He was also voted for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette All Conference Team for AA. He has also received the Eddie Mitchell Award at his High School which is the Most Outstanding Player Award.
Eric Frye- 6?1, 170 Wide Receiver. Perry Traditional Academy, Pittsburgh, PA
Frye was an integral part in the undefeated conference title run that the Perry Traditional Commodores had this past season. His +40 catches; 1,000 yards receiving; 9 touchdowns also helped his team to an overall record of 11-2 and Pennsylvania State Playoffs. Frye also garnered accolades of 2010 NAFCA All-Star and 1st Team All City. Eric pays tribute to his tenacity on the field and strong work ethic in the classroom to his mother. His mother has instilled the foundation to make him strive to do his best in all aspects of his life. ?Seton Hill is a new and upcoming program. Jason McClintock- 6?0, 210 lb. Linebacker. Greensburg Salem H.S., PA
McClintock played outside linebacker at Greensburg Salem High School. He played junior varsity his freshman year and varsity the following three years. He was a letterman his senior year. Jason brings a tough, physical presence to the game. He plans to work hard on and off of the field at Seton Hill University. He lives in Greensburg with his mother Stephanie Walker. He plans to major in history.
Christopher Engram Jr. _ 5?8 165 Defensive Back- Holy Cross High School, Delran, NJ
Three year varsity player, played defensive back and running back received all conference at both positions, additional scoring threat as kickoff returner throughout career having several TD returns. Played on State Championship and Playoff teams. Ball is a fast, hard-hitting athlete from Serra Catholic High School. He lettered 2 years in Football, 2 years in Basketball, and 1 year in Track. Ball was one of the leading tacklers of his team his junior year. He also accumulated 3 Interceptions his senior year at the defensive back position. He was a part of a secondary that broke the school record for most interceptions in a season. Ball was also named team captain his senior year. He also was named MSA sports Preseason player to watch, also was a Preseason Defensive Player of the Year candidate. Desmond is an outgoing person who enjoys meeting new people, having fun, and writing poetry. He is the son of Leslie Law and Joseph Ball, Resides in McKeesport, Pa, and has 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Ron Vega _ 6?5 205 Wide Receiver _ Pope John XXIII High School Katy, TX
Born in Brownsville, TX September 14, 1992 to Ron and Mary Vega. Has one sister named Brittany. Played one year at Pope John XXIII High School for Head Coach Scott Mills. Started at WR and SS for the Lions. Led the team in all receiving categories including averaging 17 yards per catch, and averaged 7.5 yards per carry. Chosen to play in TAPPS All Star Game. Plans to major in Business Administration and specialize in Marketing.
Geoff Bangley _ 6?4 215 Quarterback Lake Region High School Eagle Lake, FL
Bangley was the 4 Year Varsity starting QB and was twice voted to the all county team. He was second team all conference and ompeted at the U.S. Army All American Combine in San Antonio. He will be majoring in History Education
Frank Buccini _ 6?2 270 Offensive Line _ Westminster High School, MD
Buccini?s senior season he was elected to the All-MVAL (Monacacy Valley Athletic Conference) Team, along with honorable mention for All County his junior season. Buccini played all phases of the game; offense, defense, and special teams. He recorded many sacks, blocked punts and kicks. Behind Buccini all the way has been his loving family, mother Paula, father Frank, and my brother Anthony, who will be a senior linebacker this year. Buccini plans to major in mathematics and become a teacher.
Ryan Morris- 6?1 190 Quarterback _ St. Xavier High School/California University, PA
Morris hails from Cincinnati, OH and was starting quarterback at Powerhouse St. Xavier High School where he threw for over 3,700 yards and 30 TD?s with over 800 yards rushing. His scholastic career record as a starter at St. Xavier was 28-2. Morris will come to the Griffins via California University of Pennsylvania where he was a quarterback on two consecutive Western Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship and NCAA Division II National Play-off Teams. He will have graduated in 2 years from California University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Marketing. Morris will be pursing his Masters Degree in Business Administration at SHU and look to compete for the starting quarterback job this fall. Morris is proud son of Beth and Don Morris.
Chase Parker- 6?1 190 Outside Linebacker Marian High School South Bend, IN
Parker?s 10 game senior year saw him averaging 15.2 tackles per game, 14 TFL, 6 Sacks, 3 Fumble Recoveries, 1 INT, 8 PD, 1 Blocked Punt. His 3 year varsity career Parker notched 347 TOT, 30 TFL, 8 Sacks, 13 QB Pressures, 6 Fumble Recoveries, 2 INT, 10 PD, 4 Blocked Punts, 1 Defensive TD. Parker garnered accolades of Team Captain, Coaches? Award, Old Spice Red Zone Player of the Year, 2-Time 1st Team All Conference (NIC), 2 time 3A All Area Team, 2 time AP All State Honorable Mention, IFCA 1st Team All State, Ironman Award, and 3 time Fort Wayne-South Bend All Diocese Team. Parker was also a 3 year starter and 2 year team captain on the varsity Baseball team. Voted All Conference, Sectional Runner-Up, 2 time All Diocese Team. Parker is the youngest of three children (Brothers Brannon 22, and Coley 20) of Parents Teri and Todd Parker. Chase will major at Seton Hill in Pre-Med or Education.
Nick Halfhill _ 6?3 195 Quarterback Mt. Pleasant H.S. Mt. Pleasant, PA
A multi-sport athlete in Baseball (1yr letterman), Basketball (2yr letterman), and Football (3yr letterman) Halfhill comes to Seton Hill a well rounded athletic individual. His leadership and aggressive nature are apparent in the positions he has played. Halfhill has played on both sides of the ball in his scholastic career including Linebacker, Safety, Punter and Quarterback. Halfhill?s senior campaign saw him leading the Vikings to 6 victories and only 3 defeats. His 865 total yards from scrimmage, 4 TD?s along with 52 TOT and 2 sacks defensively helped Halfill to be selected to the 2010 All Conference Team. In 2009 the Halfhill lead team was Interstate Conference Champions. Nick has an older brother (Tyler Halfhill Master at Arms) who is currently serving our country in the United States Navy. His is also proud son of Eunice and Mark Halfhill of Mt. Pleasant
Mylen Thomas _ 5?7 185 Linebacker Salpointe Catholic H.S. Tucson, AZ
Thomas amassed 55 TOT his senior year at Salpointe Catholic. He is a strong and powerful individual who looks to break the line up for the Griffins next season. Thomas was a 2 time Athlete AIA Honor Roll Individual and his team was the ESPN Great American Rivalry Game Champions. He lead Salpointe Catholic to victory in the Regional Championship game and an 11-2 overall.
Thomas is son of Michelle and Mark Thomas. He plan to major in Sport Management.
James Mott - 6'0 305 Offensive Line Valley H.S.
Mott was a three year starter and two year captain. Throughout the course of his career he had 124 tackles, 6 sacks, and averaged 8 pancakes a game on the offensive side. I was awarded All-Conferance in AA and AAA WPIAL football. The Valley Vikings record throughout his three years is 11-17. James plans to major in Engineering. Mott played varsity baseball for 1year, varsity wrestling for 1year and received a team award for wrestling, varsity track and field for 3 years where he has thrown the discus and shot put.
Steve Carr- 6?2 215 Outside Linebacker Western Tech High School Baltimore, MD
Carr was active on the defensive side of the ball his senior season which saw him leading his team to an impressive 11-1 overall record. Carr averaged 4.5 tackles per game, 2 sacks per game, 7 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions. He was named All-Division, All County, and Baltimore County All-Star Team. Carr is also impressive on the Track team. He is the current school record holder in the 400m with a time of 49.93. He is a member of the 4x400m track team that won the State Championship last season and look to repeat this year. Carr plans to major in Biology at Seton Hill. He is proud parents of Claudette and Steve Carr Sr.
Lance Williams _ 5?10 180 Wide Receiver Coral Cables High School Miami, FL
Williams played for Head Coach Steve Smith and was District Champions at Miami Killian Senior High as a sophomore. His teammate was University of Miami?s premier athlete Lamar Miller. Williams transferred to Coral Gables High School to play for Coach Joe Montoya. At Coral Gables, his junior year, he recorded 22 Receptions averaging 17 yards per catch and 160 All Purpose Yards. Williams Senior season, he played quarterback, wide receiver, running back, cornerback, safety and as a return man on special teams tallying 431 yards on 19 receptions averaging 23 yards per catch....his total rushing yards were 851, averaging 10.6 yards per carry. During his Special Teams duties of Kickoff and Punt Returns, he tallied 923 All Purpose Yards....scoring 12 TDs, defensively had an interception, and 21 tackles, two forced fumbles....earned All-Dade Honorable Mention, North vs. South All-Dade County Game....two-sport athlete (football and track specializing in the Long Jump, 4-by-100 and the 200-meter)?. timed at 4.4 in the 40. Shaun Davis: 5?10?, 190 Lb. Running Back/Linebacker Schenley HS Pittsburgh, PA
Shaun Played Running back and Linebacker for the Pittsburgh Schenley Spartans and was a three year varsity letter winner. He received an honorable mention his senior year. With his help The Spartans won a city championship in 2009. Shaun averaged 7.13 yards per carry. Not only is Shaun an accomplished football player, he also found success in running track. He was a three time city champion and a gold medal winner in the 4x4. He lives with his mother Keesha Blanchard and brother Kendall Hayes. He intends to major in sports management.
