Seton Hill headed to Wheeling Jesuit on Friday evening in a key Super Region I dual match. SHU entered the match #7 in the region while the Cardinals entered at #3 in the region and #8 in the country. The Griffins won five matches, earning bonus points in four of the wins for a 23-17 upset win over the Cardinals. Its the first win in four dual matches for the Griffins over the Cardinals. SHU improves to 9-5 overall in dual matches while the Cardinals fall to 12-6.
Alan Diltz picked up the easiest win of the night for the Griffins as he earned a forfeit win at 125 pounds to give SHU the early 6-0 lead.
Tyler Kenney followed with a huge win at 133 pounds. Kenney battled Dustin Warner who is ranked #2 in the region and #12 in the country. Tyler used a takedown with about a minute to go in the third period and rode out Warner for the 3-2 win. SHU led 9-0 after two matches.

Joey Alessandro then battled #8 Daniel Romero at 141 pounds. It was no contest as Alessandro picked up a major decision (13-1) win. Joey got off to a quick start with a takedown early in the first and put the match away with a four point nearfall with 1:00 remaining in the second period.
Ty Lydic, who entered the evening ranked #4 in the region then took on the top ranked wrestler in the region Dom Nania. Nania is ranked sixth in Division II at 149 pounds. Lydic came out of the gates on fire and Nania did not know what hit him Ty jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first period and never looked back. He used a takedown and a two point near fall early in the period and a four point nearfall late in the period to take control of the match. Lydic cruised to a 13-2 win to give the Griffins a 17-0 lead after four matches.
Wheeling then won three straight matches to trim the Griffins lead to 17-10 with three matches remaining. All three Cardinal wrestlers were ranked in the top seven in the region.
Billy Bowlen then put away the match for the Griffins at 184 pounds. Bowlen used two takedowns and a four point nearfall to take an 8-2 lead after one period. He added another four point nearfall in the second to lead 12-3 after two. Bowlen ended the match 1:01 into the third period with a win by pinfall. Bowlen's win gave SHU a 23-10 lead with two matches to play to guarantee the Griffin win.
The Cardinals closed out the match with two wins at 197 and 285 pounds. Their two wrestlers are both ranked in the top four in the region.
SHU will be off until the Super Region I Championships on February 24-25 in Erie.
