The Griffin wrestling program was honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) earlier this week with their scholar athlete awards.

Individually eight Griffins were named NWCA Division II Scholar All Americans.  The eight Griffins included redshirt freshman Jacob Sombronski, sophomore Jacob Braun, freshman Youssef Abdelsalam, freshman Luke Ananea, graduate student Mike Zacur, senior Kane Kettering, sophomore Troy McClelland and freshman Luke Boylan.  

In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II Scholar All American Team, he needed to have a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with a 3.25 GPA minimum for individuals who made the DII National Championships and a 3.0 minimum GPA for anyone who was a DII All American.  The athletes also must have competed in a minimum of four dates of competition.
