Four Griffins Headed to Sioux Falls for National Championships

Head Coach Vince DeAugustine along with Jacob Houpt, Ty Linsenbigler, Mike Zacur and Kane Kettering will travel to Sioux Falls, SD to compete in Friday and Saturday's 2026 NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships.   The top eight place winners in each weight class become NCAA Division II All-Americans.

This year's championships will take place in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.  

This will be the second trip to nationals for both Zacur and Kettering.  

This is the fifteenth group of Griffins to head to nationals.  Zacur made the trip last season.  William Burgess and Kane Kettering made the trip in 2024.  John Meyers made the trip in 2023.  Joel Cawoski made the trip in 2022.  Frank Bonura and Billy Bowlen advanced to nationals in 2020.  Four Griffins advanced in 2019 including Alan Diltz, Austin Shaw, Damon Greenwald and Bowlen with Greenwald earning All American honors.  In 2018, Vincent Distefanis, Zach Voytek, Damon Greenwald and Jacob Temple all advanced to nationals.  Ty Lydic, Joey Alessandro, Alan Diltz, Billy Bowlen and Voytek competed in 2017 with Diltz earning All American honors.  Alessandro, who was national runner up, and Lydic competed in 2016.  Lydic and Pat Owens competed in 2015.  Zach Voytek in 2014, Nick Nichols and Zach Benzio in 2013 and Kenny Trumbetta in 2010 and 2012 completed the list of national qualifiers.

At 125 pounds, Jacob Houpt will battle #4 seed Shane Corrigan from Wisconsin Parkside in the first round.  

At 149 pounds, Ty Linsenbigler will take on #2 seed Jalen Spuhler from Wisconsin Parkside in the first round.  

At 157 pounds, Mike Zacur will take on Michael Ortega from UIndy in the preliminary round.  The winner will take on #8 seed Brent Nicolosi from Mt Olive in the first round.  

At 174 pounds, Kane Kettering will take on Anthony Erickson from Central Missouri in the preliminary round.  The winner will take on #8 seed Sevriano Garza from Ashland in the first round.  

Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 11 AM on Friday.
