Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Griffins Like Mike in Win over Clarion

Right before taking the court before the game, Seton Hill head coach Mark Katarski told his team to "be like Mike".  The Griffins were not on Mike's level in the first half but turned it around in the second half, outscoring Clarion 42-24, for a 68-56 win over the visiting  Golden Eagles on Wednesday evening.  SHU improves to 13-9 overall and 9-7 in PSAC action while the Golden Eagles drop to 13-9 overall and 10-6 in PSAC play.

The Griffins got off to a fast start in the game as they took an early 7-3 lead just 2:30 into the first quarter.  SHU extended their lead to 15-5 after Halie Torris drained a three pointer with 4:24 to play in the quarter.  Clarion cut the lead to 15-13 before Alexandra Hay hit two free throws and Hannah Laslo connected on a layin to push the lead back to 19-13 with 2:09 to go.  The Golden Eagles scored the final five points of the quarter to trim the Griffin lead to 19-18.

Clarion made it an 8-0 run with the first three points of the second quarter before Hay knocked down a three to tie the score at 22 with 5:42 to play in the half.  SHU went over six minutes without a field goal before the Hay bucket.  Clarion closed the half on a 10-4 run to take a 32-26 lead into the halftime break.

The Golden Eagles built their lead up to nine points at 37-28 with 8:43 left in the third before the Griffins made their run.  SHU closed the quarter on a 21-2 run to take a 49-39 lead after three quarters of action.  Chrisanna Green led the Griffins with 8 points during the run.  Lindsey Mifsud added 5 points and Jenna Kaufman 4.

SHU continued to add to its lead to start the fourth quarter.  Back to back three pointers from Mariah Wells and Hay extended the lead to 55-41 less than two minutes into the fourth quarter.  Clarion would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the quarter with SHU extending its lead to as many as 16 points.

After just shooting 33% from the floor in the first half, the Griffins shot 54% from the floor in the second half.  The Griffins also won the rebounding battle as they outrebounded the Eagles 42-38.  SHU also forced 15 turnovers, scoring 18 points off the Clarion turnovers.

Jenna Kaufman paced the Griffins with a game high 15 points.  She also added 8 rebounds and 3 assists.  Chrisanna Green produced her sixth double double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  Alexandra Hay also reached double figures with 10 points.  Hay also added 5 assists and 4 steals.  Mariah Wells and Halie Torris added 7 points each.

SHU will return to action on Saturday when they host Gannon at 1 PM.  SHU currently sits in sixth place, one game behind fifth place Clarion.  SHU holds a three game advantage over seventh place Slippery Rock.
