Seton Hill traveled to snowy Erie for a PSAC West matchup with Gannon on Friday evening. The Griffins had three players score in double figures, including a career high from
Jenna Kaufman, in an 83-63 victory. It's the Griffins first PSAC West victory. SHU improves to 9-5 overall and 5-3 in PSAC play.
The early part of the game was tight with four ties over the game's first seven minutes. Back to back three's from
Mariah Wells and
Jenna Kaufman gave SHU a 15-9 lead with just over two minutes left in the first quarter. Layups from Kaufman and
Chrisanna Green helped the Griffins end the quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 19-11 lead after one quarter of action.
Another three pointer from Kaufman gave the Griffins their largest lead of the game to date at nine just over three minutes into the second quarter. Gannon battled back to get within four at 30-26 with just over two minutes to play in the half. SHU then closed the half on a 10-1 run to take a 40-27 lead into the halftime break.
Maggie McLoughlin drained a three pointer at the buzzer to end the half.
Kaufman led the Griffins with 17 points at the half.
The Griffins extended their lead to 18 points midway thru the third quarter after Kaufman,
Lindsey Mifsud and
Alexandra Hay hit three pointers. Gannon cut the lead to 12 points late in the quarter but a bucket from
Alexandria Deep gave SHU a 59-45 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Gannon trimmed the lead to ten at 63-53 with 6:49 to play in the game. Hay responded with an 8-0 run by herself, including two three pointers to push the lead back to 18 at 71-53 with just over five minutes to play. SHU built their lead to as many as 24 in the game and settled for the 20 point victory.
Jenna Kaufman led the Griffins as she tied her career high with 24 points on 10-16 shooting, including 4-5 from three point land. Kaufman also added 8 rebounds.
Chrisanna Green and
Alexandra Hay also reached double figures with 13 points each. Green also finished with 8 rebounds.
Mariah Wells added 9 points and
Lindsey Mifsud finished with 7 points.
SHU will continue PSAC West play on Monday as they travel to Clarion.
