Griffins Live by the Three in Win at Slippery Rock

Seton Hill traveled up I-79 to take on Slippery Rock in a key PSAC West battle with playoff positioning on the line.  It's a saying that you live or die by the three.  The Griffins lived by the three as they kept possession of sixth place in the PSAC West with a 64-63 win over the Rock.  SHU improves to 12-9 overall and 8-7 in PSAC action.  The Griffins attempted 58 shots in the game with 36 of them from three point land.

Jenna Kaufman scored the first five points in the game as SHU took an early 5-1 lead forcing the Rock to take a quick timeout.  The Griffins were relying on the three ball as seven of their first eight shots were from three point land.  SHU lead 12-7 with just under five minutes to play in the first half.  Slippery Rock closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 20-15 lead.  SHU was just 4-16 from the floor in the quarter.

Alexandria Deep hit two threes early in the quarter and a free throw from Mariah Wells tied the score at 22 with 7:47 left in the half.  Wells hit a three pointer to extend the SHU lead to 26-22 at the second quarter media timeout.  An old fashioned three point play from Wells gave SHU a 14-2 run to open the quarter and a 29-22 lead with 3:33 to play.

Back to back three pointers from Lindsey Mifsud pushed the Griffins lead to 39-33 with 6:25 to play in the quarter.  A leak out lay up from Alexandra Hay and another three from Wells extended the lead to 44-38 at the third quarter media timeout.  The Griffins continued to rely on the three as they took a 50-47 lead after three quarters.  Out of the Griffins 47 shot attempts, 32 were three pointers.

SHU continued to shoot the three as Kaufman and Wells hit threes and Deep scored a layin to extend the Griffins lead to 58-49 early in the fourth quarter.  SRU battled back to cut the lead to 59-54 with 4:31 to play in the quarter.  A three pointer and a three point play from Kaufman extended the lead to ten at 67-57 with 2:20 to go.  The Griffin hit their free throws down the line to ice the game.

Jenna Kaufman paced four Griffins in double figures with 19 points.  Mariah Wells added 16 points.  Alexandria Deep tossed in 12 off the bench and Lindsey Mifsud also reached double figures with 10.  Chrisanna Green nearly missed a double double with 9 points and 12 rebounds.

The Griffins return to action on Wednesday when they host Clarion at 5:30 PM.
