IUP Pulls Away in Fourth Quarter for Win Over Griffins

Seton Hill hosted Indiana (PA) on Wednesday evening as the league celebrated its Sportsmanship Week.  IUP was not very sportsmanlike as they outscored the Griffins by twenty five points in the second half in route to a 72-51 win over the Griffins.  IUP improves to 13-5 overall and 11-3 in conference play while the Griffins drop to 11-9 overall and 7-7 in PSAC play.

The Crimson Hawks came out of the gates quickly and took an early 8-1 lead four and a half minutes into the contest.  The Hawks extended their lead to 13-5 with 3:07 to play in the quarter.  The Griffins then closed the quarter on a 7-0 run to trim the lead to 13-12 after one quarter of action.  Chrisanna Green had four points for the Griffins in the quarter.

IUP was able to push their lead back to seven points at 22-15 with 7:23 to play in the half.  A three pointer from Jenna Kaufman, a layup from Wells and another one from Kaufman cut the lead to 24-22 with 4:24 left.  Green hit one of two free throws and Sydney Rabold drained a three from the corner to give the Griffins their first lead of the contest at 26-24 with 2:51 to play before the half.  SHU hit three free throws and Green added a bucket as the Griffins took a 31-27 lead into the halftime break.

The third quarter features three ties and three lead changes.  The score was tied at 32 and 34 early in the quarter before IUP used a quick 6-2 spurt to take a 40-36 lead with 3:25 to play.  Back to back lay ins from Green and Rabold tied the score at 40 with 1:42 to go in the quarter.  After a Crimson Hawk bucket, Alexandria Deep hit a three to give the Griffins their final lead of the game at 43-42 with 59 ticks to go on the clock.  IUP hit a jumper late in the quarter to take a 44-43 lead heading into the fourth.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Crimson Hawks as they outscored the Griffins by a 28-8 margin.  IUP was red hot from the floor shooting 73% (11-15) while the Griffins shot just 18% (2-11).  IUP scored the first ten points of the half and never looked back.

Jenna Kaufman again led the Griffins in scoring with 14 points.  Chrisanna Green posted another double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.  Alexandria Deep added 8 points off the bench.  Sydney Rabold finished the contest with 5 points.

Seton Hill returns to the court on Saturday for an important PSAC West contest.  Seton Hill is currently in the sixth and final playoff spot in the west, just one game ahead of Slippery Rock who the Griffins visit on Saturday afternoon at 1 PM.
