The Griffin basketball team trailed Cheyney by as many as 24 points during the game and cut the lead to two late in the game but got no closer in a 71-64 road loss on Wednesday evening. SHU falls to 10-8 overall and 6-6 in PSAC action while Cheyney wins its third game of the season and is 3-9 overall and in PSAC play.
Seton Hill led for the first six minutes of the game before Cheyney closed the quarter on a 11-0 run to take a 21-13 lead after one quarter of action. The Wolves built their lead up to as many as 24 points in the second quarter,44-20 with 2:08 to play, but SHU trimmed the lead to 44-27 at the half.
The Griffins got to within 14 points early in the third quarter on a three from
Lindsey Mifsud but the Wolves were able to extend their lead to 59-39 at the end of the third quarter.
SHU opened the fourth quarter by scoring the first 11 points to trim the Cheyney lead to 59-50 with 5:54 to play. The Wolves rebuilt their lead to 11 points three times, the last at 65-54 with 3:35 to play. A three from Mifsud and back to back layups from
Alexandria Deep cut the lead to 65-61 with 1:11 to go.
Chrisanna Green hit one of two free throws with 48 seconds to play to cut the lead to 66-64 but the Griffins would go scoreless the rest of the way.
Chrisanna Green led the Griffins with 16 points.
Jenna Kaufman reached double figures with 12 points.
Alexandria Deep added 11 points off the bench and
Lindsey Mifsud was the fourth in double figures with 10 points.
SHU returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Pitt Johnstown.
