Box Score 2 The Seton Hill offense continued it torid week with a doubleheader sweep at Indiana (PA) on Friday afternoon. Seton Hill scored 34 runs on 29 hits in the two contests while shutting out the Crimson Hawks offense. SHU took game one by a 20-0 score and completed the sweep with a 14-0 win in game two. The Griffins scored in 12 of the 14 innings played. SHU defeated Malone 19-9 on Wednesday afternoon. The Griffins have won six in a row and are now 25-9 overall and 10-4 in PSAC West action.
Seton Hill took a quick 3-0 lead in game one.
Garret Vrbanic led off the game and reached on an error. He scored on
Zac Heide's first homer of the game.
Chris Miller singled and
Matt Malacane was hit by a pitch. Miller scored when
Adam Ferita grounded out. Heide hit his second homer of the game in the second inning, this time a three run shot. SHU made it 7-0 in the third when Ferita and Malacane executed a double steal.
Miller and Ferita each picked up RBI singles in the fourth. SHU added two more runs thanks to a IUP error and led 11-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Mark Colella led off the fifth inning getting hit by a pitch.
Tyler Sullivan followed with a two run shot to right field. Vrbanic then walked and scored when
Anthony Fanelli homered to center field pushing the Griffins lead to 15-0.
Griffin starter
Perry DellaValle was perfect thru 4.2 innings, finally giving up a single with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. The Griffins hit two more homers in the sixth inning. Fanelli hit his second homer of the game, a two run shot and later in the inning Ferita closed out the scoring with a three run homer.
DellaValle improved to 5-0 on the season with 6 shutout innings. He gave up just 2 hits while striking out 8 and walking none. Fanelli and Heide each hit two homers with Fanelli driving in 4 and Heide 5. Each had 3 hits. Malacane was 4-4 in the game. Ferita and Sullivan each added two hits.
The Griffin offense picked right up where they left off in game one. Vrbanic led off the game with a walk. Heide singled and Vrbanic scored when Miller reached on a fielders choice. SHU increased their lead to 3-0 in the second when two runners scored on a sacrifice fly from Fanelli. Seton Hill played long ball again in the third inning.
Aaron Previsky hit his first homer of his college career, a three run shot to center field.
Seton Hill made it 9-0 in the fourth inning after Malacane's three run homer that drove in Heide and Fanelli. The homers continued in the fifth inning with Heide's third homer of the day. Heide hit his second three run shot of the doubleheader to increase the score to 12-0. Seton Hill closed out the scoring in the sixth on a two RBI double by Wardropper.
Mike Bittel earned his fourth win of the season with the complete game shutout. He allowed 6 hits while striking out 6 and walking none. Heide was 3-5 in the game with 3 RBI. Miller, Sullivan and Wardropper each added two hits.
SHU will conclude the four game set on Sunday when they host IUP in a doubleheader at 1 PM.
