Owen Henne was selected in the Major League Baseball Draft as the 11th selection in the 6th round as pick 175 by the St Louis Cardinals. Henne is the highest ever draft pick for the Griffins.
Henne becomes the eighth Griffin to be drafted in the MLB Draft. He joins Aidan Layton (2024 - 17th round Oakland A's), Kevin Vaupel (2023 - 16th round Miami Marlins), Patrick Monteverde (2021 - 8th round Miami Marlins), Craig Lewis (2019 - 33rd round Baltimore Orioles), Perry Dellavalle (2018 - 27th round St Louis Cardinals), Alex Haines (2013 - 33rd round Colorado Rockies) and Rick Austin (2007 - 27th round Philadelphia Phillies).
This season, Henne was second on the Griffins with a .401 average. He added 10 doubles, a triple, 5 homers and 39 RBI. He fielded at a .962 clip at shortstop. He was a D2CCA, NCBWA and ABCA All Region selection this season in addition to being a first team All PSAC West selection. In his three seasons on the hill, Henne hit .354 with 30 doubles, 4 triples, 13 homers and 116 RBI. He scored 113 runs while stealing 41 bases.
Henne is the highest drafted position player from the PSAC since John Mabry from West Chester was selected in the 6th round of the 1991 draft with the 156th pick.
