For the second straight contest, the Griffins fell behind early, rallied to tie and then won in overtime. This week it was another PSAC Crossover at home against Kutztown. SHU rallied to tie the game at 61 at the end of regulation and outscored the Golden Bears 17-13 in overtime for a 78-74 victory. SHU improves to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in PSAC action while Kutztown drops to 2-8 overall and 1-4 in PSAC action. Griffin head coach

SHU came out of the gates quickly, taking an early 9-2 lead.
Mariah Wells scored 5 points and
Jenna Kaufman added 4 points during the run. Kutztown battled back to take a 14-13 lead before an
Alexandra Hay basket gave SHU the lead back with just under three minutes left in the quarter. The team's gave the lead back and forth with Kaufman's jumper giving SHU a 23-20 advantage after the first quarter.
A layup from
Chrisanna Green gave SHU a 29-27 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the second quarter. That would be the last point the Griffins would score in the quarter as Kutztown outscored the Griffins 13-0 over the last six minutes to take a 40-29 lead into the halftime break.
Three times in the early portions of the third quarter, the Golden Bears built their lead to 14 points, the last at 47-33 with 7:22 left in the quarter. The Griffins were able to keep the game in reach as they only trailed by 10, 54-44 at the end of the third quarter.
Sydney Rabold got the Griffins on the board first in the fourth with a jumper, but Kutztown scored the next five to take a 59-46 lead with 7:42 to play in the quarter. SHU then went on an 8-0 run to get to within five at 59-54 with 2:40 left. The Bears ended the run with a jumper before Hay drilled a three to trim the lead to 61-57 with just under two minutes to play. After a KU turnover, Kaufman cut the lead to 61-59 with 58 seconds to play. SHU forced another turnover which led to a Wells layup that tied the score at 61 with 29 seconds left. The Griffin defense then kept Kutztown off the scoreboard sending the game to overtime.
Wells scored the first three points of the overtime period and Mifsud followed with a three pointer as SHU took an early 67-61 advantage in overtime. Mifsud answered a KU basket and the Bears followed with a three pointer to trim the Griffin lead to 69-66 with 2:37 to play. Wells and Mifsud again hit layups to give SHU a 73-68 lead with 41 seconds left. KU hit a three to cut the lead to two. Wells hit two of two free throws to push the lead back to four with 34 seconds to play. KU hit one of two free throws and then a jumper to trim the lead to one but
Alexandria Deep hit two free throws and Green grabbed a defensive rebound to preserve the win.
Jenna Kaufman led the Griffins with 18 points.
Mariah Wells added 16 points, including 7 in overtime.
Alexandra Hay and
Lindsey Mifsud each added 10 points.
Chrisanna Green finished with 8 points and 13 rebounds.
SHU takes a break from PSAC action as they travel to Virginia State on Friday.
