Four Griffins Score Double Figures In Loss To Johnson C. Smith

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Four Seton Hill University women's basketball players scored in double-figures, but the Griffins fell to Johnson C. Smith, 78-64, in non-conference basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Brayboy Gym on day 2 of the CIAA-PSAC Challenge.

Seton Hill is now 1-1 on the season. Johnson C. Smith improves to 1-1.

Seton Hill looked poised for the second win in a row when they poured in 27 points in the first quarter. Trailing 7-3 with 7:46 remaining in the first quarter, Seton Hill would outscore the Golden Bulls by a  24-11 margin to end the quarter with a 27-18 lead. However, the Griffins would see their lead slowly dwindle until the 4:40 mark in the second when the game was finally tied at 33. After Johnson C. Smith had built a five-point lead to lead 38-33 with 2:46 remaining in the quarter SHU would make a 7-0 run to retake the lead just before the break, 40-38.

In the third, the two teams would exchange leads on five different occasions before Johnson C. Smith secured the lead for good with 3:57 remaining. The Golden Bulls would take a 48-47 lead and go on a 8-3 run to end the quarter with a 55-50 lead. That's the closest the Griffins would get as Johnson C. Smith cruised in the fourth to a 78-64 final.

Alexandra Hay led SHU with 12 points on 3-of-6 shooting, including 3-of-5 from long range and 3-3 from the charity stripe. Chrisanna Green scored 11 points on 4-of-10 from the floor while grabbing a team-high nine rebounds and dishing out five assists. Jenna Kaufman and Alexandria Deep scored 10 apiece to round out the double-digit scoring for SHU.

As a team, Seton Hill was 22-of-61 from the floor for 36.1%. The team was 11-of-33 from long-range for 33.3% and just 9-of-14 from the line for 64.3%. Johnson C. Smith out-rebounded SHU, 50-30. The Golden Bull bench outscored the Griffins bench by a score of 41-16.

The game featured eight lead-changed and five ties.

After the completion of the tournament, it was announced that Mariah Wells was selected to the 2016 CIAA-PSAC All Challenge Team. The full breakdown of the selections is below.
