Torris Scores 22 As SHU Wins Big At Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. - Halie Torris led all scorers with 22 points as Seton Hill University downed Mansfield to open up conference play on Saturday afternoon at Decker Gymnasium at Mansfield University.

The win moves Seton hill to 2-1 (1-0 PSAC) on the season. Mansfield evens their record at 1-1 (0-1 PSAC).

With SHU leading 26-18 at the start of the second quarter, Mansfield's Alyssa Mullins hit the quarter's first jumper to get the home team back into the game, 26-20. Backt-to-back free-throws by Micaiah Battle pulled the game to within four, 26-22, with 8:59 showing before halftime. However, buckets by Mariah Wells, Hannah Laslo, and Halie Torris were capped off by a Mariah Wells three-pointer to give SHU the double-digit lead, 35-24, with 5:59 remaining before intermission. After a Mansfield layup, SHU would go on a 16-5 run to close out the first half leading by 20, 53-31. Mansfield would never threaten and SHU easily cruised to the 91-68 victory.

Halie Torris had a game-high 22 points on 9-of-12 from the field, including 2-of-3 from three-point distance. Jenna Kaufman had 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting and 2-of-5 from the three, Chrisanna Green had 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting, Mariah Wells had 11 points on 4-of-7 from the floor, and Alexandria Deep rounded out the SHU double-figure scorers with 10 points on 4-of-7 from the floor. Green led the SHU rebounding effort with eight. Lindsey Mifsud had six assists to go along with 5 points.

Brielle Kelly paced Mansfield with 14 points on a 5-of-10 performance. Bella Ricci had 10 points from 5-of-9 from the field. 

As a team, Seton Hill made 37 of their 65 shots for 56.9%, including a 10-for-23 performance from long-range for 43.5% and 7-of-10 from the line for 70.0%. Mansfield made 22-of-56 from the floor for 39.3%, 3-of-15 from distance for 20.0%, and 21-of-28 from the line for 75.0%. Seton Hill had 11 steals and 20 turnovers in the game. SHU out-rebounded Mansfield, 38-29. The Griffins led in points in the paint, 50 32, second chance points, 16-7, and the SHU bench outscored Mansfield's bench by a 43-25 margin.

Seton Hill will return to action on Sunday when they take on Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, Pa. That game is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
