The Griffin women's basketball team opened their 2016-17 season on the road in Charlotte, NC for the PSAC/CIAA Challenge. SHU took on Fayetteville State in the opening game of the challenge. SHU shot over 50% from the floor in the 82-72 victory.
After giving up the opening basket of the game, the Griffins responded with 11 straight points to take a quick 11-2 lead just 2:21 into the game.

Mariah Wells each hit three pointers during the run. SHU continued to hold the lead throughout the first quarter but Fayetteville State went on a 9-0 run to take a 21-19 lead with 1:57 to play in the quarter. Back to back baskets from
Halie Torris put SHU back in front as they led 25-21 after one quarter of action.
The Griffins scored the first seven points of the second quarter and led 32-21 with 6:47 left in the half. Fayetteville never got any closer that eight points in the quarter and the Griffins extended their lead to 46-34 at the half. Wells led the Griffins with 13 first half points.
Chrisanna Green added 10 points and Hay finished with 7 points and 4 assists in the half.
Seton Hill continued to add on to its lead in the third quarter. The Griffins built their lead up to as many as 22 points in the quarter.
Jenna Kaufman scored 8 points in the quarter to lead the Griffins. SHU led 69-47 after three quarters of action.
Fayetteville opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run to get to within 15 points at 69-54 with 6:42 left in the quarter. The Griffins were able to keep their lead to double figures throughout the quarter and closed out the game with an 82-72 victory.
The Griffins shot 52% from the floor (32-62) and held Fayetteville State to just 38%.
Mariah Wells led the Griffins with 18 points.
Chrisanna Green finished with a double double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Jenna Kaufman added 12 points and
Alexandra Hay finished with 10 points and 7 assists.
Halie Torris added 7 points.
SHU will continue play in Charlotte on Saturday as they take on host Johnson C. Smith at 2 PM.
