Box Score The Griffin football team opened its home portion of the schedule by hosting Lock Haven University at Offutt Field on Saturday afternoon. Seton Hill used two first half field goals and then added three second half touchdowns to cruise to a 27-10 victory over the Bald Eagles. Seton Hill improves to 1-1 on the season while Lock Haven falls to 0-2 on the season.
Seton Hill forced a three and out on Lock Haven's first drive and took over at their own 48 yard line following a punt. The Griffins moved the ball to the LHU 38 before two penalties pushed the ball back to the SHU 45. Two
Dan Pietrangelo passes to
Eric Brown of 23 and 12 yards moved the team back into field goal range at the LHU 11.
Jesser Boulnemour then hit a field goal from 28 yards out to give SHU a 3-0 lead with 8:45 to go in the first quarter. SHU forced another Lock Haven punt on their next possession and then used the ground game of
Brandon Stout and
Patrick Jackson to move the ball to the LHU 22 where Boulnemour hit from 39 yards out to give the Griffins a 6-0 lead with 52 seconds left in the first quarter.
Both teams exchanged three and outs to start the second quarter. Lock Haven's second drive of the quarter started at their own 39 and they went 58 yards in 11 plays, driving down to the SHU three yard line before having to settle for a 20 yard field goal to trim the SHU lead to 6-3 with 9:14 to play in the second quarter. Seton Hill drove 55 yards in 14 plays to the LHU 20 yard line but Boulnemour's 37 yard field goal hit the right upright. Lock Haven returned a Griffin punt to the SHU 27 yard line with 1:31 left in the quarter but
Richardo Housen picked off a LHU pass to end the drive and SHU entered the halftime break leading 6-3.
SHU received the opening kickoff and returned it to their 21 yard line. On their first play from scrimmage, Stout raced 74 yards to the Lock Haven five yard line. Jackson then scored from one yard out on third down to increase the SHU lead to 13-3 with 13:33 left in the third quarter. Housen ended the next Lock Haven possession with his second pick of the game at the SHU 32. That drive stalled on the LHU 40 with the Griffins turning the ball over on downs.
Tanelious Walton ended the next Eagle possession with an interception and return to the Griffin 37 yard line. SHU drove all the way to the Lock Haven 17 yard line and faced a fourth and seven as the third quarter ended.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Pietrangelo hit
Larry Joshua with a 17 yard touchdown pass to give SHU a 20-3 lead. Neither team was able to move the ball on their next possession and
William Hodge pinned the Bald Eagles at their own 1 yard line following a 50 yard punt. LHU threw three straight incompletions forcing a punt and
Jarvis McClam returned the punt 36 yards to the house for a touchdown. SHU increased their lead to 27-3 with 11:46 left in the game. Lock Haven then went 82 yards on 13 plays to trim the lead to 27-10 with 8:23 left. Lock Haven got to the SHU 2 yard line but the Griffin defense made a stand and the Griffin offense then ran out the clock to end the game.
Seton Hill put up 442 yards of total offense to 340 for Lock Haven. SHU also held the ball for over 34 minutes of action.
Dan Pietrangelo was 23-36 for 183 yards and 1 touchdown.
Brandon Stout finished with 130 yards rushing.
