Box Score Seton Hill concluded its three game road trip with a PSAC matchup at Clarion on Wednesday evening. The Griffins were looking to end a three game losing skid. Five Griffins scored in double figures to lead the squad to a 73-63 victory. SHU improves to 9-13 overall and 6-11 in PSAC play. The win completes the season sweep of the Golden Eagles, and is the first time the Griffins have completed a series sweep in PSAC play.
Clarion took an early 11-4 lead four minutes into the contest.
Kelly Brennan hit a three pointer and
Chelsea Apke followed with a layin to trim the Clarion lead to 11-9. Clarion then scored 8 of the next 10 points to extend their lead to 19-11 with 11:36 left in the first half. Back to back layups from Apke cut the Eagles lead to 21-19 with 7:25 to play. Two buckets from Clarion built their lead back to 25-19 before back to back three pointers from
Mariah Wells and
Lindsey Mifsud tied the score at 25 with 4:37 to play. Another jumper from Wells gave the Griffins their first lead of the game at 27-25. Clarion retook the lead at 32-31 but Wells hit a layin with 6 seconds remaining in the half to give SHU the 33-32 halftime lead.
The Golden Eagles scored the first 5 points of the second half before Apke got the Griffins on the scoreboard in the second half. After another Clarion basket, Wells hit another three pointer and
Meghan Mastroianni followed with two free throws to give the Griffins a 40-39 lead with 14:39 to play. Clarion retook a 48-47 lead but Apke and
Jharrin Gill each hit a basket to give SHU a 51-48 lead with 11 minutes to play. The Eagles tied the game at 51 and then the Griffins went on a 7-0 run to take a 58-51 lead at the under 8 media timeout.
Alexandra Hay and
Halie Torris then hit back to back three pointers to give the Griffins their largest lead of the game at 66-55 with just over four minutes to play. SHU was able to extend its lead to 71-57 and finished the game with a 73-63 advantage.
Mariah Wells led the Griffins with a team high 14 points.
Meghan Mastroianni finished with 12 points.
Alexandra Hay ended the contest with 11 points and
Chelsea Apke posted her seventh double double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Kelly Brennan was the fifth Griffin in double figures with 10 points.
The Griffins will return home on Saturday when they host Pitt Johnstown at 1 PM in another PSAC matchup with playoff implications.
