Season Ends in Atlantic Regional Semifinal

Seton Hill continued action in the NCAA Atlantic Regional as they took on top seed and host Indiana (PA) on Saturday evening in the KCAC in Indiana, PA. 

In a back and forth game that showed off what Division II basketball is about, IUP got the last big run and was able to defeat the Griffins 94-87.  SHU ends the season at 22-9.  

The Griffins and Crimson Hawks both got off to good starts from the floor as SHU trailed IUP 14-11 at the first media timeout.  Five different Griffins scored in the first five minutes of the contest.  Helene Cowan hit a three to trim the IUP lead to 21-18 with 2:25 to play.  Threes from Helene Cowan and Emma Fischer tied the score at 24 late in the first quarter.  Abby Mankins hit a three with five seconds to play as the Griffins took a 27-24 lead after one quarter of play.  

IUP used an 8-0 run to take a 34-29 lead four minutes into the second quarter.  The Crimson Hawks were able to push their lead to sixteen, 51-35, on a 10-0 run with two minutes left in the quarter.  Hallie Cowan hit a three to end the run.  Mia Kalich followed with a basket to trim the lead back to 51-40.  Helene Cowan added two free throws to cut the lead to 51-42 at the halftime break.  

A steal and layup from Shaye Bailey cut the IUP lead to 53-46 with nine minutes to play in the third.  Kalich followed with a layup and IUP led 53-48 with eight minutes to go.  Helene Cowan made it 55-53 with 6:45 to play.  Helene Cowan tied the game at 57 with 5:30 to play.  Hallie Cowan and Helene Cowan hit back to back threes to put the Griffins in front 63-59 with 4:34 left.  Fischer drilled another three and Bailey added another steal and layin as the Griffins took a 70-64 lead with 2:11 left as the Griffins went on a 26-11 run over a seven minute stretch.  Fischer hit another three to extend the Griffin lead to 73-66 late in the quarter.  SHU was 13-17 from the floor and 5-7 from three in the third quarter.  

IUP scored the first five of the fourth quarter to trim the lead to 73-71.  Bailey drilled a three to put SHU in front 78-73 with 8:15 to play.  IUP hit a pair of threes to cut the Griffins lead to 80-79 with seven minutes left.  Kalich answered with a basket to put SHU in front 82-79 with 6:44 to go.  IUP hit a pair of threes to take an 87-84 lead with four minutes to go.  IUP hit another three to extend their lead to 90-84 with 1:45 left.  IUP hit five of their first six threes in the fourth quarter.  Hallie Cowan hit a three to trim the lead to 90-87 with 52 seconds to play.  IUP hit a pair of free throws to push their lead to 92-87 with 12.5 seconds to play.  

Helene Cowan led the Griffins with 29 points.  Kalich added a double double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Hallie Cowan and Bailey each finished with 12.
