The Griffin wrestling team hosted Shippensburg on Thursday evening looking to extend its two match winning streak. Seton Hill ran its winning streak to three with a 27-8 victory. SHU won 8 of the 10 matches contested. SHU improves to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in PSAC matches.
The Griffins took a 3-0 lead after the 125 pound match on a 9-3 decision victory from
Mike Soria. Soria, who is 5
th in the region, controlled all three periods of the match and had 3 takedowns. Shippensburg took a 4-3 lead with a major decision win at 133 pounds. Pat Owens put the Griffins back ahead with a 4-3 decision victory over 3
rd ranked in the region Cameron Throckmorten. Owens, who is 4
th in the region, won the match with an escape with 45 seconds left in the third period. Ty Lydic extended the Griffins lead to 10-6 with a 12-3 major decision victory at 149 pounds.
Zach Voytek, who is 4
th in the region, dominated his match and earned a 7-1 decision victory to increase the SHU lead to 13-4.
Ryan Walters earned a major decision with a 15-6 victory at 165 pounds. He recorded 3 takedowns in the first period to take control of the match. SHU led 17-4 after the Walters win. SHU pushed the lead to 21-4 after
Brett Smith's 11-0 major decision win at 174 pounds. Smith, who is 6
th in the region, controlled the whole match and held a 5-0 lead after the first period.
Christian Bosco continued the run of Griffin wins with an 8-4 decision victory at 184 pounds to extend the Griffins lead to 24-4.
Morris Lawson ran the streak of Griffin wins to seven with a 3-1 decision victory at 197 pounds. Lawson, who is 6
th in the region, won the match with a takedown with 42 seconds left in the third period.
Seton Hill will hit the road for two matches this weekend when they travel to Kutztown on Saturday and LIU Post on Sunday.
