Griffins Defeat Minnesota State 4-2 in NCAA Division II Baseball Championships Opener

The first NCAA Division II Baseball Championship appearance for the Griffins will go down as a memorable one as the Griffins were able to defeat Minnesota State by the score of 4-2 to move into the winners bracket of bracket number two in Cary, NC.  With the victory, the Griffins improve to 41-15 on the season.

.  After a flyout to start the game, two singles and a hit batsman loaded the bases with one out.  Bittel then got a huge strikeout of the Mavs number five hitter and then a foul out to end the top of first inning.  SHU used that momentum to score three runs in the bottom of the first.  After an out,

 earned his ninth win of the season.  He went 5 innings, gave up 2 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits.  Brett Sullivan then threw three scoreless innings in relief and Jesse Cooper earned his 17th save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

Matt Malacane led the Griffin offense with 2 hits and 3 RBI.  Taylor Schmidt finished the game going 3-3.  Cody Herald and Nick Sell each added two hits.
 
Seton Hill will now play Colorado Mesa, a 5-4 winner in 10 innings over St Thomas Aquinas, on Tuesday afternoon at 5 PM.
