Zach Voytek added another milestone to what has already been a spectacular first season when he qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships following a third place finish at 157 pounds at the Super Region I Championships in Johnstown on Sunday afternoon. Voytek opened his day by dropping his semifinal match to #3 seed Francis Mizia of Mercyhurst by the score of 6-0. Zach then dropped into the consolation semifinals and won that match by the score of 5-4 to advance to the consolation finals with a shot at a trip to nationals on the line. Voytek then defeated #4 seed Matt Martoccio of Kutztown by the score of 3-2 in the third place match to earn the trip to nationals. The Division II Championships will take place on March 15-16 in Cleveland, OH.
Senior
AJ Fisher just missed a trip to nationals by finishing fourth at 141 pounds. Fisher opened up his day with a 6-3 victory in the consolation quarterfinals. Fisher then advanced to the third place match with a 6-3 decision victory in the consolation semifinals. Fisher was defeated by fall by #4 seed Sam Hanau of Pitt Johnstown in the third place match.
Andrew Schutz won his consolation quarterfinal match by the score of 8-2 before falling by major decision (11-3) in the consolation semifinals.
Kevin Laubach won his consolation quarter by the score of 4-0 before falling to the #2 seed by the score of 3-0 in the consolation semifinals.
Brett Smith won his first match of the day by an 11-9 score before also falling to the #2 seed in the consolation semifinals.
