Box Score Seton Hill hosted former WVIAC foe WV Wesleyan on Wednesday evening in the McKenna Center. The Griffins ran their win streak to seven matches with a 3-0 sweep of the visiting Bobcats. With the victory, the Griffins improve to 21-2 overall on the season.
The Griffins came out of the gates fast in the first set, jumping out to leads of 9-5 and 14-7. SHU extended their lead to 22-15 on an ace from
Courtney Field. A kill from
Corrine Gahagen followed by an ace from Gahagen gave the Griffins set point at 24-17. After a Wesleyan point, the Griffins closed out the first set 25-18. The second set was a different story in the beginning as Wesleyan took a 10-5 lead. SHU battled back and tied the set at 16 before Wesleyan scored 6 of the next 7 points to lead 22-17. SHU stormed back and scored the next 7 points. A block from
Shelby Kyllo and Field tied the set at 22.
Cassie Hausfeld and Kyllo teamed for a block to give SHU a match point at 24-22. After a Wesleyan point, Hausfeld and Kyllo combined for another block to end the set and give SHU the 2-0 lead with a 25-23 victory in the second set. The Griffins took the early lead in the third set 8-5. Wesleyan fought back to tie the set at 11. SHU then went on a 6-2 run to take a 17-13 lead. Gahagen's block extended the lead to 21-16. Jessica Beal and
Emily Gilles closed out the set and the match with the Griffins winning the third and final set, 25-19.
Cassie Hausfeld led the Griffins with 11 kills.
Corrine Gahagen and
Shelby Kyllo each added 9 kills. Kyllo led the team with 7 blocks with Hausfeld adding 6 and Gahagen 5.
Courtney Field led the Griffins with 23 assists.
Lauren Teed finished with a match high 20 digs.
The Griffins will travel to Erie on Friday and Saturday for two PSAC matches. The Griffins are set to take on Gannon in a key PSAC showdown on Friday at 7 PM. Gannon enters the match on a five match winning streak and is currently tied with the Griffins for second place in the PSAC West with an 11-2 record. Gannon is 18-2 overall.
