Griffins Knocked out of PSAC Tournament with 3-0 Loss at Cal PA

Seton Hill opened the PSAC volleyball tournament with a match at California (PA).  The number three seed Griffins traveled to the Convocation Center on the California (PA) campus to take on the number two seed Vulcans in a PSAC Quarterfinal.  California took a 1-0 lead with a 25-14 victory in the first set.  Cal took a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 victory in the second set.  California closed out the match with a 25-16 victory.  SHU falls to 26-11 overall and now must wait to see if they receive an NCAA bid on Monday.  The selection show can be seen here at 7:30 PM.
 
California jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first set.  Corrine Gahagen cut the lead to 5-3 with a kill.  California continued to control the play and led 10-5.  Shelby Kyllo's kill cut the lead to 12-8.  Cassie Hausfeld trimmed the lead to 13-10 with a kill.  Kelsey Profio had a kill to make the score 17-13.  California pushed the lead to 21-14 forcing a second Griffin timeout.  California closed out the set with an ace at 25-14. 
 
The Vulcans took a 5-2 lead in the second set thanks to two Griffin hitting errors.  Profio's kill cut the lead to 5-3.  Cal then ran off three straight for a 8-3 lead.  The Griffins battled back to cut the lead to 9-7.  Gahagen and Hausfeld teamed on a block to cut the lead to one at 9-8.  Profio and Kyllo blocked the Vulcans to make the score 12-11.  SHU tied the set at 12 but the Vulcans then ran off three for a 15-12 lead.  Cal extended the lead to 18-13 forcing a SHU timeout.  Gahagen cut the lead to 22-16 with a kill.  Profio and Gahagen combined for a block to trim the lead to 23-18.   A Gahagen ace kept the Griffins alive at 24-20 but a Vulcan kill closed out the second set. 
 
The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the third set on a Jenna Snyder kill.  Lauren Teed followed with an ace to make it 2-0 and cause a Vulcan timeout.  Gahagen pushed the lead to 3-0.  Cal trimmed the lead to 6-5 and then continued the run to take a 13-8 lead.  Cal extended its lead to 17-10 and the Griffins called a timeout.  California closed out the Griffins with a 25-16 victory. 
 
The Griffins hit -.034 in the match.  Corrine Gahagen, Shelby Kyllo and Cassie Hausfeld each had 4 kills in the match.  Lauren Teed had 20 digs.
