The Seton Hill wrestling team opened their 2013 season with a fifth place finish at the Washington and Jefferson Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Seton Hill finished with 81.5 points. Thiel won the event with 178 points. Alma, Waynesburg and Heidelberg rounded out the top four.
The team had 5 place finishers on the day.
Tanner Druck was second at 149 pounds and
Zach Voytek also finished second at 157 pounds. Andy Schutz (133 lbs) and
AJ Fisher (141 lbs) both finished in third place.
Kevin Laubach finished with 5th place finish at 141 pounds.
Voytek won his first three matches before falling by a 7-5 decision in the final of the 157 pound weight class. Druck won his first four matches before falling 12-4 in the finals of the 149 pound weight class. Fisher took his first two matches before falling in the semifinals of the 141 pound weight class. Fisher defeated teammate
Kevin Laubach 2-0 in a second round match. Schutz took his first three matches before falling in the semifinals and winning the consolation final for a third place finish.
The team will travel to Penn State Greater Allegheny on Tuesday for a 7 PM match.
