Slow Start Costly in Road Loss at #15 Edinboro

Seton Hill got off to a rough start on the road at #15 Edinboro on Wednesday evening in PSAC action.  The Scots scored the first 19 points of the game in route to a 90-70 victory over the Griffins.  SHU falls to 9-4 overall and 4-3 in PSAC play while the Scots improved to 10-1 overall and 6-1 in PSAC play.

Edinboro got off to a fast start as the Griffins started off cold from the field and were down 19-0 just over five minutes into the contest.  Courtney Cecere scored the first Griffin basket at the 4:21 mark of the first quarter.  SHU followed that with baskets by Katie Nolan, a three from Kelly Weeks and a layin from Halie Torris to cut the Scots lead to 19-9 with 2:45 to play.  Edinboro led 23-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Back to back three pointers from Lindsey Mifsud and Cecere trimmed the Scots lead to 25-19 just two minutes into the second quarter.  The Scots built their lead up to twelve points before Cheyenne Trest drained a three pointer with 3:23 to play in the half and cut the lead to 33-24.  Five straight points from Jenna Kaufman at the before the half cut into the Edinboro lead and the Scots took a 44-31 lead into the halftime break.

The Scots scored the first eight points of the second half to build their lead to 52-31 before Alexandra Hay hit a layup for the first Griffin points of the second half at the 6:10 mark of the third quarter.  A basket and a three point play from Nolan and two free throws from Mifsud trimmed the lead to 52-40 with 3:53 to play in the third quarter.  An old fashioned three point play from Trest cut the lead back to single digits at 9 points (54-45) with just over two minutes to play in the quarter.  Edinboro led 64-50 at the end of the third quarter.

Edinboro continued to lead in the fourth quarter.  SHU was able to cut the lead to 16 points but could get no closer.

Jenna Kaufman led three Griffins in double figures with 16 points.  Cheyenne Trest finished the game with 15 points and Lindsey Mifsud added 14.  Courtney Cecere chipped in with 8 points and Katie Nolan added 7 points.

SHU returns to action on Saturday when they host Clarion at 1 PM.
