Griffins Roll to Sixth Straight Win

Seton Hill hosted Pitt Johnstown on Saturday looking for their sixth straight win.  After getting off to a slow start, the Griffins used a 25-5 run run over the final 12:46 of the first half in route to a 79-50 victory over the Mountain Cats.  It was the sixth win in a row for the Griffins as they improved to 15-4 overall and 10-3 in PSAC play.

Cheyenne Trest converted a three point play early in the first quarter to give the Griffins a 3-2 lead.  That was the only lead the Griffins would have in the first quarter as Pitt Johnstown was able to extend their lead to 15-7 with three minutes to go in the quarter.  A jumper from Alexandra Hay and a layup from Trest cut the Mountain Cats lead to 15-11 at the end of the first quarter.

Courtney Cecere opened the second quarter by hitting a three pointer and a free throw from Cecere tied the score at 15 early in the quarter.  Baskets from Katie Nolan, Trest and Jenna Kaufman continued the Griffins run as they took a 21-15 lead midway thru the quarter.  After UPJ trimmed the lead to 23-18, Halie Torris and Kaufman hit back to back threes as the Griffins closed out the quarter on a 11-2 run.  SHU outscored the Mountain Cats 25-5 over the final 12:46 of the half and led 34-20 at the half.

Pitt Johnstown was able to cut into the Griffins lead in the third quarter as they trailed 41-33 with 5:38 to play.  Over the next five minutes, the Griffins went on a 12-0 run to push their lead to 53-33 with less than a minute to play in the quarter.  UPJ scored the final four points of the quarter and SHU led 53-37 at the end of the third quarter,

The Griffins continued to pull away in the fourth quarter as they went on a 12-4 run over the first four minutes of the quarter to put the game away.

Jenna Kaufman led the Griffins with a game high 22 points.  She also added 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.  Cheyenne Trest continued her stellar play with 17 points.  She also added 5 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal.  Alexandra Hay and Courtney Cecere each finished with nine points.  Hay added 8 steals.  That mark is tied for the second most steals in a game since the Griffins joined the NCAA.  Cecere also pulled down 8 rebounds.

SHU returns to action on Wednesday when they make the short trip to Indiana (PA) for a 5:30 PM PSAC contest.
