After opening the game on an 8-0 run, Seton Hill saw itself down ten points at the end of the third quarter, only to rally with a huge 25 point fourth quarter in stunning #10 California (PA) on Saturday afternoon in the McKenna Center. The Griffins used the 25-9 fourth quarter in route to the 64-58 upset win. With the win, the Griffins improve to 13-4 overall and 8-3 in PSAC play while the Vulcans fall to 15-2 overall and drop their first PSAC game (10-1).
The win over the Vulcans in the highest ranked team knocked off by the Griffins since joining the NCAA. SHU defeated #15 Shippensburg during the 2008-09 season.

SHU came out of the gates quick, scoring the games first eight points. Baskets from
Jenna Kaufman and
Lindsey Mifsud along with four points from
Hannah Laslo gave SHU the 8-0 lead just three minutes into the contest. The Vulcans responded with an 8-0 run of their own to tie the score at eight with 4:18 to play in the quarter. A three pointer from
Alexandra Hay ended the California run. A layup from
Courtney Cecere gave the Griffins a 13-11 lead after the first quarter.
Seton Hill built their lead up to four points, 19-15, on a jumper and two free throws from
Cheyenne Trest early in the second quarter. The Vulcans and Griffins played nip and tuck throughout the rest of the quarter and the Vulcans were able to carry a 31-30 lead into the halftime break.
The Vulcans opened the second half on an 11-2 run to take a ten point lead, 42-32 with 6:28 to play in the quarter. Two free throws from
Halie Torris and a three pointer from Hay trimmed the lead to six, 45-39 with two minutes to go in the quarter. The Vulcans scored the final four points of the quarter and led by ten, 49-39 after three quarters of play.
The Griffins defense began to take control of the game in the fourth quarter as they held the Vulcans off the scoreboard for the first 3:51 of the quarter. Over that stretch, the Griffins were able to score twelve straight points to take a 51-49 lead.
Halie Torris hit a big three pointer and Trest added a three point play during the run. Kaufman hit two free throws to give the Griffins the 51-49 lead. After four straight from the Vulcans, Trest's layin tied the score at 53 with just over five minutes remaining. Hay drilled a three and Kaufman hit two more free throws to extend the Griffins lead to five at 58-53 with 3:07 to go.
Courtney Cecere answered a Vulcan basket to push the lead back to 60-55 with just under two minutes remaining. After Cal hit one of two free throws, Trest hit both of hers to increase the SHU lead to 62-56 with 42 seconds left. Trest again answered a Vulcan basket with two free throws to extend the lead to 64-58 with 29 seconds to play. The Griffin defense had one final stand as they forced a Vulcan turnover and were able to run out the clock and secure the upset win.
Seton Hill finished the game shooting 50% from the floor including a blistering 7-9 from the field in the fourth quarter. SHU held the Vulcans to just 39% including 4-17 in the fourth quarter. The Griffins were also a perfect 17-17 from the line in the game.
Jenna Kaufman posted her sixth double double of the season, finishing the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Cheyenne Trest added 15 points in the win. She also added 3 assists and 2 blocks.
Alexandra Hay just nearly missed a double double with 11 points and 9 rebounds.
Halie Torris added 8 points off the bench.
SHU returns home on Wednesday evening when they host Bloomsburg on Wednesday evening at 5:30 PM.
