The Griffins second trip to Erie in three days was just as nice as the first one as Seton Hill jumped out to a 48-25 halftime lead and cruised to an 83-68 win at Mercyhurst on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Griffins improve to 12-4 overall and 7-3 in PSAC action. The win is the third straight for the Griffins.
Seton Hill came out of the gates quickly, jumping out to an 11-4 lead midway thru the first quarter. The Griffins used three pointers from
Jenna Kaufman,
Halie Torris and
Courtney Cecere during the opening five minutes. SHU was able to extend their lead to 16-4 on a layup from Torris and a three point play from
Cheyenne Trest.
Lindsey Mifsud and
Alexandra Hay each hit threes at the end of the quarter to give the Griffins a 26-9 lead heading into the second quarter.
A quick 6-0 run from the Griffins gave them their biggest lead of the game, 23, at 43-20 with just under five minutes to play in the half. SHU was able to hold that twenty three point lead at the halftime break, 48-25.
Midway thru the third quarter, Mercyhurst went on a 7-0 run to cut the 55-40. SHU responded with an 11-2 run to take a 66-42 lead with 1:05 to play in the third quarter, effectively putting the game away.
Torris led five Griffins in double figures with 16 points. Trest added 13 points. Cecere added 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Kaufman added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Hay also reached double figures with 11 points.
Seton Hill will return home on Saturday afternoon for an important PSAC West contest against #10 California (PA). Tip is set for 1 PM.
