Griffins Split PSAC West Doubleheader with Gannon

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Seton Hill closed out its four game set with Gannon with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.  Seton Hill rallied with four runs in the seventh of game one but it was not enough as Gannon won 9-8.  SHU scored in the bottom of the ninth for a walk off hit as they won 8-7 to split the doubleheader.  SHU is now 13-7 overall and 2-2 in PSAC West action.
 
Gannon took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  The Griffins got that run right back in the bottom of the first as Craig Lewis homered to left center field to lead off for the Griffins.  Gannon retook the lead in the third with a solo homer to left field. 
 
The Knights added three runs in the fourth to push their lead to 5-1.  SHU got a run back in the bottom of the inning.  Austin Braendel doubled with two outs and scored on a single by Lewis.  The Knights added two more runs with a two run bomb to left in the fifth and extended their lead to 7-2.  Gannon added two more runs to push their lead to 9-2 in the sixth.  SHU got two of those back on a two run shot from Braendel to trim the lead to 9-4. 
 
Mark Colella homered to center field with one out in the seventh to cut the lead to 9-5.  Ryan Wardropper singled in pinch runner Aaron Previsky to trim the lead to 9-6.  Braendel followed with his second bomb of the game to trim the lead to 9-8 with two outs in the last half of the seventh. 
 
Braendel was 3-3 with two homers and 4 RBI.  Lewis, Sullivan and Colella each added two hits. 
 
Gannon again took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of game two.  The Knights added another run in the second inning on a passed ball to take a 2-0 lead.  SHU tied the score at two in the bottom of the second.  MP Buckley and Ryan Grieco singled and both scored on a Lewis double.  The Griffins took a 3-2 lead when Lewis scored on a wild pitch. 
 
Seton Hill added a run in the third after Tom McCarthy was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Grieco.  The Griffins executed a perfect first and third play to push their advantage to 5-2 after four innings.  Gannon picked up an unearned run in the top of the fifth.  Gannon tied the score at six in the top of the seventh inning. 
 
The Knights took a 7-6 lead with an unearned run in the top of the eighth inning.  SHU tied the game at seven on a sacrifice fly from Colella for the first out of the inning but ran themselves out of a chance of winning the game with two runners thrown out on the bases. 
 
The Griffins then walked off the Knights with a single from Carl Turner to win the game.
 
The Griffins are scheduled to host Alderson Broaddus on Tuesday evening.
