Late Rally Not Enough in Loss at IUP

Seton Hill closed out its road portion of the schedule with a trip to Indiana, PA to take on the Crimson Hawks.  IUP pulled away in the third quarter for a 79-66 victory.  SHU drops to 14-12 overall and 10-10 in PSAC play while IUP improves to 19-5 overall and 17-3 in PSAC play. 
 
IUP came out of the gates flying as they took an early 7-0 lead at the 7:20 mark of the first quarter, forcing the Griffins into an early timeout.  IUP pushed their lead to 10-0 before Jenna Kaufman drained a three to end the drought.  Back to back baskets from Chrisanna Green and a three from Lindsey Mifsud trimmed the Crimson Hawks lead to 13-10 with 4:35 to play in the quarter.  IUP was able to extend their lead to 20-13 at the end of the quarter. 
 
The Crimson Hawks opened the second half on a 12-4 run forcing another Griffin timeout and extending the Hawks lead to 32-17 with 5:20 to play in the half.  Alexandra Hay converted an old fashioned three point play then drilled a three point shot to get the Griffins within nine at 32-23 with 3:40 to play in the quarter.  IUP was able to extend their lead to 44-29 with 1:07 to play in the half.   IUP took a 46-31 lead into the halftime break.  Kaufman and Hay each had 11 points for the Griffins, Hay scoring all 11 in the second quarter. 
 
IUP built their lead to 52-31 before two baskets from Mariah Wells and Hay cut the lead to 52-35 with 6:42 to play in the quarter.  The Crimson Hawks outscored the Griffins 20-8 in the quarter to take a 66-39 lead after three quarters. 
 
SHU cut the lead to 74-56 with 3:04 to play in the game behind 10 fourth quarter points from Halie Torris.  The Griffins went on a run to cut the lead to 74-64 with 1:18 to play forcing the Crimson Hawks to take a timeout and put all of their starters back in the game. 
 
Alexandra Hay led the Griffins with 17 points.  Jenna Kaufman added 15 points.  Halie Torris finished with 10 points as the third Griffin in double figures. 
 
The Griffins will close out the regular season as they host Pitt Johnstown on Wednesday evening.
