The Griffins concluded their PSAC Crossover weekend in eastern PA with a matchup with West Chester on Sunday afternoon. Seton Hill outscored the Rams 54-38 in the second half in route to an 86-78 road win as four Griffins scored in double figures. SHU is now 4-3 overall and 2-2 in PSAC action.
West Chester held the lead for the first five minutes of the contest before the Griffins went on a 7-0 run to take a 17-13 lead with 2:19 to play in the first quarter.
Katie Nolan scored four straight points and
Cheyenne Trest completed a three point play during the run. WCU tied the game at 17 before
Courtney Cecere gave SHU a 19-17 lead after two free throws at the end of the first quarter.
Lindsey Mifsud drilled a three pointer to open the second quarter and give the Griffins a 22-17 advantage early in the second quarter. After a Ram free throw, Cecere and
Hannah Laslo each hit layins to push the Griffins lead to 26-18 with 8:49 left in the half. Over the next seven minutes, the Rams outscored the Griffins 17-2 to take a 35-28 lead. Two straight baskets from
Jenna Kaufman trimmed the lead to 35-32 late in the half but the Rams scored the final five points of the half to take a 40-32 lead at the halftime break.
After the Rams pushed their lead to ten points, the Griffins went on an 8-0 run to trim the Rams lead to 42-40 with 6:12 to play in the third quarter. Four straight points from
Alexandra Hay and a jumper from Cecere gave SHU a 49-46 lead late in the quarter, a lead the Griffins would not give up the rest of the way. SHU took a 55-53 lead into the fourth quarter. After being outscored by the Rams 23-10 in the second quarter, the Griffins returned the favor in the third, outscoring the Rams 23-10.
Two baskets from Kaufman and one from Hay extended the Griffins lead to 61-55 with just under nine minutes remaining. Three minutes later, the Rams tied the score at 63. SHU answered with a jumper from Kaufman and a three pointer from Mifsud. WCU cut the Griffins lead to 70-69 with four minutes to play. Hay then drilled a three and Mifsud followed with a jumper to push the lead to 75-69. The Griffins then went 9-12 from the free throw line and Laslo added a jumper as the Griffins completed the eight point win.
Kaufman led the four Griffins in double figures with 23 points. Hay finished with 17 points. Trest added 13 points and Mifsud finished with 12.
The Griffins will travel to Kutztown next Saturday for another PSAC crossover matchup.
