Cold Shooting Second Half Costly in PSAC Crossover Loss

The Griffins opened their eastern PA crossover weekend with a matchup at East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon.  Seton Hill led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter but were outscored 43-21 in the second half as the Warriors rallied for a 73-62 win over the Griffins.  SHU falls to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in PSAC play while ESU improves to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in PSAC action. 

Both teams got off to a quick start by hitting their first two shots as the score was tied at 4 just over a minute in.  The Griffins then went on a 10-2 run to take a 14-6 lead with just over six minutes left in the quarter.  Lindsey Mifsud and Alexandra Hay each hit threes during the run.  Another three from Hay pushed the lead to nine before the Griffins settled for a 19-14 lead after one quarter. 

Five straight points from Jenna Kaufman gave SHU a ten point lead at 26-16 early in the second half.  Another three pointer from Kaufman and a layup from Katie Nolan gave SHU their largest lead of the game at 15 points, 33-18, with 6:18 to play in the half.  ESU cut the lead to seven late in the half but two free throws from Courtney Cecere and Kaufman gave SHU a 41-30 lead at the half. 

East Stroudsburg began to cut into the Griffins lead in the third quarter, getting as close as four points, before Hay hit a three pointer to push the Griffins lead back to 51-42 with two minutes to play in the quarter.  SHU took a 51-44 lead into the fourth quarter. 

Two free throws from Halie Torris extended the lead to 53-44 early in the fourth quarter.  SHU did not hit a field goal until the 4:35 mark of the quarter when Kaufman scored to cut the Warriors lead to 58-57.  East Stroudsburg scored the next eight points to take control of the game.  Kaufman's three pointer cut the lead to six at 68-62 with 1:21 to play but ESU scored the final five points for a 73-62 win.

Jenna Kaufman led the Griffins with 17 points.  Cheyenne Trest added 14 points and 7 rebounds.  Alexandra Hay added 13 points and 8 rebounds. 

SHU will continue PSAC crossover action on Sunday when they take on West Chester at 1 PM.
