Griffins Rolling Into Christmas Break

The Seton Hill women's basketball team is heading into the Christmas holiday on a roll, the winners of five straight contests.  The Griffins won their fifth straight on Monday afternoon with a 94-41 victory over Salem International in the final game of the Salem Christmas Classic.  The win moves the Griffins to 8-3 on the season.

After giving up the first basket of the game, the Griffins scored the next seven points and never looked back in cruising to a win.  Cheyenne Trest got the Griffins on the board with a three pointer.  Back to back three pointers from Trest and Alexandra Hay pushed the Griffins lead to 13-4 midway thru the quarter.  Salem trimmed the Griffins lead to two points before baskets from Jenna Kaufman and Courtney Cecere extended the Griffins lead to 19-13 after one quarter of action.

Salem again scored the first basket of the second quarter but the Griffins responded and were able to take a 30-17 lead on a three pointer from Lindsey Mifsud midway thru the second quarter.  Another set of back to back threes from Trest and Hay pushed the Griffins lead to 38-23 with 2:41 left in the half.  SHU took a 41-28 lead into the halftime break.

The second half was all Seton Hill as they outscored the Tigers by a 53-13 margin to pull away in the game.

Over the first 3:38 of the third quarter, the Griffins went on a 14-0 run to build their lead to 55-28.  The Griffins got baskets from five different players during the run.  Seven straight points from Halie Torris extended the Griffins lead to 62-35 with 3:37 to play in the quarter.  The Griffins carried a 68-35 lead into the fourth quarter.

Trest hit back to back three pointers to open the fourth quarter.  A three pointer from Torris gave SHU its biggest lead of the game at 55 points, 94-39 in the last minute of play.

The Griffins finished the game shooting 47% from the floor including 51% in the second half.

Trest led four Griffins in double figures with 18 points.  She also added 4 assists and 3 rebounds.  Torris scored 17 points in just 19 minutes of play while adding 6 rebounds.  Hay finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block and steal.  Kaufman just missed a double double with 12 points and 9 rebounds.

SHU will be off for the Christmas holiday and return to action on Saturday, December 30th when they open PSAC West play against Slippery Rock at 1 PM.
