SALEM, WV - The Seton Hill University women's basketball team outscored Tiffin University (OH), 24-13, in the fourth quarter en route to a 77-66 non-conference win at the 2017 Salem Holiday Invitational at the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
The Griffins improve to 7-3 overall, while Tiffin falls to just 3-8 on the 2017-18 season.
After 30 minutes of back-and-forth basketball that saw the game tied nine (9) different times and had 11 lead changes, the Griffins finally broke through in the fourth quarter.
Cheyenne Trest hit one two free-throws to break a 55-55 tied with 7:15 showing on the fourth quarter clock. Trest would score on the ensuing possession to give Seton Hill a 59-55 lead. After a layup from Tiffin's Ali Chirmer cut the deficit back down to two,
Alexandra Hay's trey gave Seton Hill their largest lead of the afternoon, 62-57, with 5:02 remaining. Trest's three-ball and a
Jenna Kaufman layup pushed the lead to 10, 67-57, with 3:12 to go.
Tiffin would cut into the lead, scoring four unanswered to come to within four, 67-63, with 1:23 to go. However, the Griffins would go a perfect 10-for-10 from the line down the stretch on their way to the 77-66 victory.
For the game,
Jenna Kaufman had the game's only double-double. The senior scored 22 points on 4-of-15 (26.7%) shooting, and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Cheyenne Trest scored 25 points on a 6-for-13 (46.2%) shooting performance. Trest made 3-of-5 (60.0%) three's and was 10-for-10 from the line.
Alexandra Hay rounded out the SHU double-digit scorers with 11 points.
Sydney Rabold had six (6) points, while
Hannah Laslo grabbed seven (7) rebounds.
Tiffin was led by Schirmer's 18 points. Santucci had 11, and May grabbed a team-high seven (7) rebounds.
Seton Hill will return to West Virginia on Monday to take on host, Salem University. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
