GREENSBURG, Pa. - Seton Hill senior

Courtney Cecere both scored 14 points as the Seton Hill University women's basketball team defeated West Virginia Wesleyan College, 79-59, in non-conference action on Thursday evening inside the McKenna Center.
Seton Hill improves to 6-3 overall, while WV Wesleyan falls to 4-5 overall on the 2017-18 season.
The Griffins bolted out of the gates to scored the game's first seven (7) points over the first few minutes, but WV Wesleyan stormed back and eventually tied the game and eventually grab a four-point lead (15-11) with 2:58 showing on the first quarter clock. A jumper by Cecere made it 15-13, but the Bobcats' got a jumper to push the lead back out to four. The two teams would battled back and forth, but the Bobcats would lead at the end of the first, 23-19.
In the second, Cecere's old-fashioned three-point play cut the Wesleyan lead to one (1), 23-22. A layup by
Jenna Kaufman gave Seton Hill a 24-23 lead with 8:30 on the clock, but WV Wesleyan quickly regained the lead with a jumper on the other end. A layup by Cecere followed by a jumper by
Hannah Laslo gave the Griffins a 28-25 lead, but a jumper and a trey but WV Wesleyan ahead by two, 30-28, with 6:19 on the clock. From there, the Griffins would outscore WV Wesleyan 11-2 until taking a 41-32 lead into halftime. Kaufman's layup and a trey following a WVWC turnover got the run started.
Cheyenne Trest scored a layup and made both foul-shots after a missed Wesleyan jumper and a media timeout to make it 37-30 in favor of SHU. Following a Bobcat layup, Laslo would make 1-of-2 shots from the foul-line and
Alexandra Hay's layup after a missed WVWC jumper increased the lead to eight (8), 40-32, with 1:29 showing. After both team's failed to capitalize on shots, Cecere would net 1-of-2 foul-shots with 8 ticks on the clock to take the 41-32 lead into the break.
In the third, the Griffins would outscore WV Wesleyan by a 23-13 margin and lead by 19, 64-45, heading into the fourth. Seton Hill would push the lead to 24, 71-47, in the final frame before eventually settling for the 79-59 victory.
For the game,
Courtney Cecere scored a season-high 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, including 2-of-4 from the foul line. Cecere added a team-high eight (8) rebounds, three (3) assists, and two (2) steals.
Jenna Kaufman finished with 14 points on a 5-of-16 shooting night, including 2-of-2 from the line and 2-of-4 from long-range. Kaufman also added a team-high eight (8) rebounds.
Alexandra Hay rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points on 6-of-9 from the field.
WV Wesleyan was led by Mari Stewart's 12 points on 3-of-14 from the field, including 5-of-6 from the charity stripe and 1-for-3 from the three-point line. Stacy Remer scored 10 points.
The Griffins made 31-of-66 (47%) shots from the field, including 6-of-21 (28.6%) from three. Seton Hill made 11-of-18 (61.1%) free-throws. The Bobcats netted 25-of-66 (37.9%) from the floor, including just 2-of-12 from long-range. WVWC made 7-of-8 (87.5%) shots from the foul-line. The Griffin bench outscored their counterparts, 35-24, and Seton Hill also held a 44-20 advantage in Points in the Paint. SHU scored 20 Points Off Turnovers, while WVWC scored 10. The two teams tied in 2nd Chance Points, 13-13.
Seton Hill returns to action this weekend when they travel to Salem, WV to take part in the Salem University Christmas Classic.
