Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Strong Start Carries Griffins to Road Win

Seton Hill opened the game with an 8-0 start and never looked back in leading WV State for the entire contest in route to an 88-74 nonconference road victory on Sundat afternoon.  With the win, the Griffins improve to 3-2 on the season.

Three free throws from Jenna Kaufman, a layup from Cheyenne Trest and a three pointer from Alexandra Hay gave the Griffins an early 8-0 lead two minutes into the contest.  WV State responded with an 9-3 run to get within two but a three pointer from Sydney Rabold pushed the lead back to five, midway thru the first quarter.  Two jumpers from Kaufman in the final minute of the quarter gave SHU a 22-13 advantage after one period of play.

After scoring the first two baskets of the second quarter, SHU answered with an 11-2 run to build the lead to 33-19 with 5:42 to play in the half.  Hay had five of the eleven points during the run.  The Yellow Jackets hit a shot at the halftime buzzer to trim the Griffins lead to ten at 37-27.

The Griffins used a quick 7-0 run to build their lead to 47-32 with just under seven minutes to play in the third quarter.  Hannah Laslo scored four points during the mini run.  Five straight from Trest gave SHU their largest lead of the game at 61-44 with 1:49 to play in the quarter.  Trest scored 10 points in the quarter.

A three pointer from Trest and a basket from Kelly Weeks extended the Griffins lead to twenty one points, 81-60, with 2:42 to play in the game.

SHU finished the game shooting 46% from the floor and hit twelve three pointers in the win.  The Griffins were 14-15 from the free throw line and held a 42-38 advantage in rebounds.

Four Griffins reached double figures in the win.  Cheyenne Trest scored a game high and career high 22 points in the win.  She also added 6 assists.  Alexandra Hay added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.  Jenna Kaufman scored 15 points and pulled down 6 rebounds.  Katie Nolan was the fourth Griffin in double figures with 12 points.  Hannah Laslo added 8 points and 9 rebounds.

The Griffins travel to East Stroudsburg and West Chester next weekend for another set of PSAC crossovers.
