Sophomore forward
Chrisanna Green posted a double double of 17 points and 16 rebounds but it was not enough in a 58-54 loss at home to Edinboro. SHU falls to 8-5 overall and 4-3 in PSAC play while Edinboro improves to 11-2 overall and 7-0 in PSAC action.
In a game in which the Griffins never led, Edinboro jumped out to a quick 9-3 lead. SHU answered back with a three from
Lindsey Mifsud and two free throws from Green to cu the lead to 9-8 with 3:23 left in the first quarter. A jumper from
Halie Torris trimmed the lead to 13-12 late in the quarter but the Scots scored the final five points of the quarter including a three at the buzzer to take a 18-12 lead after one quarter of action.
After Green's free throw to open the second half scoring, Edinboro scored four straight to build their lead back to 22-13 with 7:50 to play before the half. Back to back layups from
Hannah Laslo cut the lead to 22-17 with 6:36 left but the Scots scored the final seven points of the half to take a 29-17 lead into the halftime break.
Edinboro built their lead up to as many as 19 points in the third quarter and took a 47-34 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Scots increased their lead to 52-35 with 7:34 to play before the Griffins began to make their run. SHU then went on a 12-0 run over a five and a half minute stretch to get back to 52-47 with 1:36 left. Green scored six points over the 12-0 run. The Scors scored on their next possession and SHU followed by missing two free throws and trailed 54-47 with just under a minute left. The Scots then went 1-2 from the line before Green hit two free throws to get back to 55-49 with 32 seconds left. After the Scots missed two free throws, Green connected on a layin to trim the lead to 55-51 with 23 seconds left but the Scots hit 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch to put the game away.
Chrisanna Green led the Griffins with her fourth double double of the season. She finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds. She's had at least 16 rebounds in her last four games.
Lindsey Mifsud finished the game with 9 points.
Halie Torris and
Hannah Laslo each added 8 points.
