Seton Hill opened their PSAC West four game set with a doubleheader at Point Stadium on Friday afternoon. The Griffins lost a 7-3 lead in game one, falling by a 10-8 score. SHU earned the split with a 6-4 win in game two. SHU is now 20-9 overall and 6-4 in PSAC West play.
The Griffins got on the board in the top of the first inning.
Garret Vrbanic and
Matt Malacane singled to lead off the game.
Zac Heide reached on a fielders choice to load the bases.
Chris Miller then hit into a double play scoring Vrbanic to give SHU a 1-0 lead. Seton Hill added on in the third inning.
Ryan Wardropper and Vrbanic singled to start the inning. Wardropper scored on an error and Vrbanic made it 3-0 when he scored on a Malacane single.
Colton Carney drove in two to increase the SHU lead to 5-0 after two and a half inning.
Pitt Johnstown scored three unearned in the bottom of the third inning to trim the SHU lead to 5-3.
Tyler Sullivan singled in two runs in the top of the fifth to increase the SHU lead to 7-3. UPJ answered with 7 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 10-7 lead. SHU got one run back in the sixth on a
Matt Malacane double but left the bases loaded in the inning.
Malacane led the Griffins with 3 hits. Vrbanic, Sullivan and Wardropper each added two hits.
SHU took a 1-0 lead in game two on a leadoff homer from Vrbanic. The Mountain Cats hit a three run homer in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 lead. UPJ added a run in the second to take a 4-1 lead.
The Griffins took the lead for good in the top of the third. Vrbanic singled up the middle to start the inning. He moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a ground out from Malacane. Miller singled and moved to second on a Heide walk. After a strikeout,
Sam Vilk singled to load the bases. Sullivan drew a bases loaded walk to cut the lead to 4-3. Heide then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.
Adam Ferita walked to load the bases and Wardropper drove in two runs with a single, giving the Griffins a 6-4 lead.

Mike Bittel needed as he shut down the Mountain Cats the rest of the way. He earned his third win of the season with the complete game win. He struck out 8 in the contest.
Garret Vrbanic went 3-4 in the contest.
SHU will continue the four game series with a doubleheader at home on Saturday.
