Seton Hill hosted Millersville on Saturday afternoon in a PSAC Crossover. Millersville doubled up the Griffins in the fourth quarter in route to a 66-51 victory. SHU falls to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in PSAC action while the Marauders improve to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in PSAC play.
In a game in which the Griffins never lead, Millersville jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead. Two free throws from
Jenna Kaufman and a layin from
Alexandra Hay cut the lead to 5-4 just two minutes into the contest. Back to back buckets from Kaufman and
Mariah Wells trimmed the lead to 9-8 with 4:24 to play. The Marauders then went on a 9-1 run to take an 18-9 lead with a few seconds to play in the quarter but Hay drilled a three pointer at the buzzer from about 30 feet out to trim the lead at the end of the quarter to 18-12.
Hay opened the second quarter like she ended the previous one by drilling a three pointer 16 seconds into the quarter. SHU would then go cold for the next seven minutes as they only made one free throw over that span. Millersville extended its lead to 25-15 before
Sydney Rabold hit a free throw and
Hannah Laslo finished a layup to cut the lead to 25-18 with 2:48 left in the half.
Lindsey Mifsud scored with just over a minute left and Kaufman drilled a three to cut the Marauders lead to 25-23 with 32 seconds left but the Marauders answered with a three of their own to take a 28-23 into the halftime break.
Kaufman hit one of two free throws and Mifsud drained another three to cut the lead to 28-27 just a minute into the half. The third quarter featured three ties, the last with 44 seconds to play in the quarter on a three point play from Wells. The Marauders hit a basket with 4 seconds left to take a 40-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
Kaufman tied the score at 40 with a basket a minute into the fourth quarter. Over the next two minutes, the Marauders outscored the Griffins 7-0. SHU battled back to get within one point at 49-48 after an Alexandra Deep bucket with 4:29 to play. Millersville scored a quick five points to take a 54-48 lead with 3:19 left. Kaufman hit two free throws to trim the lead to 54-50 with 2:49 left but SHU would only hit one free throw the rest of the way as the Marauders outscored them 12-1 over the last 2:49.
SHU only shot 28% from the field and 22% from three point land while Millersville hit 46% from the field and 57% from three. SHU only committed 11 turnovers while forcing 17 from Millersville.
Jenna Kaufman led the Griffins and was the only player in double figures with 18 points. She just missed a double double with 9 rebounds. She also added 4 assists, 2 steals and a block.
Lindsey Mifsud added 9 points and
Alexandra Hay returned from injury and scored 8 points.
Mariah Wells finished with 7.
Chrisanna Green added 10 rebounds in the loss.
SHU will return to action on Sunday as they host Shippensburg in another PSAC crossover.
