Box Score 2 After dropping a pair of games on Friday to #10 Mercyhurst at home, the Griffins traveled to Erie on Saturday for another PSAC West doubleheader with the Lakers. The Griffins rebounded by sweeping the Lakers on Saturday. SHU took game one by the score of 9-2 behind a complete game from
Jordan Fuller and completed the sweep with a 3-1 win in game two. SHU is now 39-9 on the season and finished PSAC West play with a 22-6 mark.
The Griffins got on the board first in the top of the third of game one. After one out,
Garret Vrbanic singled. He moved to third on a single from
Anthony Fanelli. Fanelli then stole second to put runners on second and third.
Cody Herald grounded out with Vrbanic scoring on the play. SHU added another run in the fourth.
Logan Urtz singled to lead off the inning and scored when
Matt Malacane doubled to right center field. The Griffins added 3 more runs in the fifth. After an out, Vrbanic drew a walk. He stole second and scored when Fanelli singled. Herald then tripled to drive in Fanelli.
Nick Sell then knocked in Herald with an infield single. SHU tacked on four more in the sixth to put the game away. Malacane homered to lead off the inning.
Pat McCarthy and Vrbanic were hit by pitches. Fanelli singled to load the bases and Malacane scored on a wild pitch. Herald followed with an RBI single and Sell hit a sac fly to increase the lead to 9-0. The Lakers then got their two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Jordan Fuller earned his eighth win of the season with a complete game victory. He gave up the 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 7.
Matt Malacane and
Anthony Fanelli were each 3-4 in the win.
Cody Herald added two hits.
Garret Vrbanic scored 3 runs.
Matt Malacane gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead in game two when he hit an 0-2 pitch over the left field wall. SHU added another run in the top of the third inning.
Anthony Fanelli reached on an error after one out. He moved up on a wild pitch.

Logan Urtz then hit a sac fly to center field to give SHU a 2-0 lead. SHU increased its lead to 3-0 in the fourth.
Adam Ferita was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. He moved to second on a sac bunt from
Pat McCarthy. After a groundout,
Garret Vrbanic drove in Ferita with a single. The Lakers got a leadoff homer in the bottom of the fourth. The Lakers put two runners on in the seventh but
Perry DellaValle got a strikeout looking to end the game.
Joe Shaffer earned his fourth win of the season in relief. He went 2 scoreless innings.
Perry DellaValle earned his fifth save with a scoreless seventh. Four Griffins had one hit each in the win.
The Griffins will now take part in the PSAC Baseball Championships this week in Butler, PA. SHU will battle #3 from the east Shippensburg at 3:30 on Wednesday afternoon.
