Long Winning Streak Comes to an End After Sweep at Slippery Rock

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Seton Hill made the trip to Slippery Rock on Sunday afternoon looking to set a school record for their 20th straight victory.  The Rock ended the winning streak with a 4-1 win in game one and then rallied for a 7-6 walk off win in game two to complete the sweep of the Griffins.  SHU walked off the Rock yesterday in a crazy come from behind 13-12 victory in game two.  SHU falls to 30-6 overall and 17-3 in PSAC West action.

The Griffins Jordan Fuller and the Rock's Kyle Schneider hooked up in a pitcher's dual in game one.  The Rock got on the scoreboard with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth inning.  SHU answered in the top of the fifth to tie the score at one.  After an out, Logan Urtz singled.  He moved to second on a single from Matt Malacane.  After a strikout, Taylor Schmidt came thru with a clutch two out RBI single.  Slippery Rock retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a run and then added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 4-1 win.

Jordan Fuller suffered the loss, he went 5 2/3 innings and gave up 4 runs on 7 hits while striking out 4.  Taylor Schmidt had 2 hits in the game.

The Griffins took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  After one out, Cody Herald walked and scored when Nick Sell hit a two run homer to left field.  SHU added two more runs on three doubles from Pat McCarthy, Herald and Logan Urtz to give the team a 4-0 lead in the top of the third.  The Rock cut the lead to 4-3 when they scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth.  The Griffins increased their lead to 6-3 in the sixth.  After two outs, Sam Vilk singled and pinch runner Adam Ferita scored when Garret Vrbanic hit a two run homer to left.  Perry DellaValle got the first out in the seventh before a solo homer cut the lead to 6-4.  A single and a throwing error put runners at second and third.  A ground out was the second out of the inning and scored the fifth run for the walk.  Down to their last out, the Rock tied the score with an RBI single.  A walk put runners at first and second and Jesse Cooper relieved DellaValle.  Cooper hit the first batter he faced and the Rock walked off the Griffins with a single thru the left side of the infield.

Logan Urtz was the lone Griffin with two hits.  Nick Sell and Garret Vrbanic each hit two run homers.

SHU returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Davis & Elkins for a nonconference doubleheader.
