Box Score 2 Seton Hill continued its trip in Florida with a pair of contests at Jack Russell Stadium in Clearwater, FL. The Griffins rallied for a 12-5 win over Saginaw Valley in the first game of the doubleheader. SHU rallied for a 7-5 win in game two over Mansfield to complete a sweep of their games on Saturday. SHU is now 6-3 on the season.
Saginaw Valley took a quick 2-0 lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. They used three hits and 1 Griffin error. SVSU added another unearned run in the top of the third inning. The Griffins tied the game in the bottom of the third. After one out,
Pat McCarthy doubled.
Anthony Fanelli followed with a single.
Nick Sell then unloaded on a pitch and drove it over the left field wall to tie the score at three. The Cardinals took a 5-3 run with two runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Seton Hill took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with 5 runs. Sell led off with a single.
Zac Heide then followed with a single.
Cody Herald then cleared the bases with a double to the left center field gap.
Taylor Schmidt had a RBI single and
Adam Ferita followed with a RBI double.
Garret Vrbanic increased the lead to 8-5 with a single that scored Ferita. SHU added 1 more run in the seventh. Sell led off with a double and scored on a Herald sacrifice fly. Heide knocked in Sell who walked in the eighth inning with a single to make the score 10-5. Sell scored when Herald reached on an error.
Chris Miller then increased the lead to 12-5 with an RBI double.
Zach Martinelli earned the win in relief of starter
Logan Urtz.
Nick Sell led the offense with 3 hits including a double and a homer. Sell also drove in three runs.
Cody Herald matched Sell with 3 RBI.
Zac Heide and
Taylor Schmidt also added 3 hits.
Mansfield took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning by scoring an unearned run. Seton Hill tied the score when
Chris Miller, who singled, scored on a wild pitch in the top of the second. SHU took a 2-1 lead when they had back to back to back singles from
Nick Sell, Miller and
Cody Herald. Mansfield tied the score at two with a run in the bottom of the third inning. SHU retook the lead in the fourth. After two outs,
Garret Vrbanic doubled and scored on a single by
Pat McCarthy.
Mansfield scored three in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-3 lead. SHU tied the score at five in the top of the fifth. Miller drew a leadoff walk and moved to third on a Herald single. Miller scored on a
Colton Carney groundout and Herald scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at five. The Griffins took a 6-5 lead in the sixth after Vrbanic singled and scored when Sell reached on an error. SHU added an insurance run in the eighth when Vrbanic scored on a perfectly executed squeeze play by
Zac Heide.
Jordan Fuller earned the win and
Perry DellaValle earned his second save of the season.
Garret Vrbanic was 3-4 with 3 runs scored.
Chris Miller and
Cody Herald each had two hits.
SHU will be off on Sunday and return to action on Monday with a doubleheader against Ohio Valley.
