Box Score 2 Seton Hill opened its spring break trip with a doubleheader at Walter Fuller Park in St Petersburg, FL against Lake Erie College. Lake Erie held on for a 7-6 win in game one. The Griffins responded with a 6-1 win in game two. SHU is now 4-3 on the season.
Lake Erie took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second when they put together three hits off of starter
Mike Bittel. The Griffins got a run back in the bottom of the second.
Sam Vilk was hit by a pitch with two outs.
Matt Malacane drew a walk and
Taylor Schmidt doubled over the center field wall to drive in Vilk and cut the lead to 2-1. Lake Erie increased their lead to 6-1 with 4 runs in the top of the third inning. SHU got half of those runs back in the bottom of the third.
Pat McCarthy led off the inning with a double. He scored when
Nick Sell drove a 1-2 pitch over the left center field fence to trim the lead to 6-3. The Storm got another unearned run in the top of the fourth to push the lead to 7-3.
SHU got a run back in the bottom of the fourth. Vilk led off with a doubled and scored on a RBI double from McCarthy. The Griffins got a break and took advantage of it in the bottom of the sixth when the Storm let an inning ending popup fall to the ground. McCarthy then doubled in a run and pinch hitter
Logan Urtz singled in McCarthy to cut the lead to 7-6. Lake Erie retired the Griffins 1-2-3 in the seventh inning.
Mike Bittel suffered the loss. He went 5 1/3 innings, giving up 7 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits.
Pat McCarthy led the offense with 3 doubles and 2 RBI.
Seton Hill got on the scoreboard first in game two.

Garret Vrbanic had back to back doubles to score the first run. Vrbanic then scored from second base on a long fly out by
Taylor Schmidt. SHU added 4 more runs in the fourth. Vrbanic,
Chris Miller and
Pat McCarthy each drove in a run in the inning. The Storm hit a solo homer in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-1.
Brett Sullivan earned the complete game victory. He gave up 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 5.

SHU will return to action on Saturday when they take on Saginaw Valley at 2 PM and Mansfield at 6 PM at Jack Russell Stadium.
