Box Score 2 Seton Hill made the short trip to Washington, PA to open up PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon as they took on California (PA). The Griffins opened the doubleheader with an 8-2 win. SHU led 3-0 in game two but were walked off by the Vulcans by a 5-4 score. SHU is now 11-4 overall and 1-1 in PSAC West play.
The Griffins got on the board first in the top of the third inning.
Adam Ferita tripled to open the inning and scored on a
Taylor Schmidt base hit to give SHU a 1-0 lead.
Nick Sell then tripled to the right center field gap to score Schmidt and
Garret Vrbanic. California got a run back in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 3-1. The Griffins added a run in the sixth. Vrbanic was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and scored when Sell doubled to the left center field gap. SHU added two more runs with a big 2 out, 2 RBI single from Ferita to increase the lead to 6-1.
Chris Miller drove in two runs with a single in the seventh to push the lead to 8-1. California scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Mike Bittel went the distance to earn the win. He gave up 5 hits and struck out 6.
Nick Sell had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs.

The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of game two.
Pat McCarthy led off the game with a double. He moved to third on a ground out from
Garret Vrbanic and scored on a sac fly from
Nick Sell. SHU added two more runs in the third when Sell homered over the left field fence driving in Vrbanic who singled. California got two runs back with back to back solo homers in the bottom of the fourth. The Vulcans took a 4-3 lead with 3 hits in the bottom of the sixth.
Anthony Fanelli then tied the game with a solo shot to right field in the top of the seventh. Cal won the game with a walkoff single in the seventh.
Austin Sleek suffered the loss.
Adam Ferita and
Anthony Fanelli were the lone Griffins with 2 hits.
SHU will return to the field on Sunday when they host California (PA) in a doubleheader.
