The men's and women's track and field teams kicked off the spring semester at the Al Hall Freedom games at Edinboro University Saturday January 17th and picked up where they left off before winter break in December with another strong showing .
The men were lead by
Terry Jackson and his first place finish in the 60m hurdle race posting a time of 8.57.
Santo Belle had a 4th place showing in the 800m and teammates
Micah Cantaral and
Carl Koehler rounded out the scoring in the event at 7th and 8th place.
Bobby Gould took home and 8th place finish in the 200m, Stephen Lafferty took home a 7th place finish in the 3000m for his efforts on the day, The distance medley relay team of
Algeron Johnson,
Santo Belle,
Micah Cantaral and
Anthony Camasso qualified for the PSAC indoor championships and placed 5th overall on the day,
Derek DiAngelis broke his school record in the pole vault with a 4th place finish jumping 4.55m (15'-00"), teammates
Tyler Kolar and
Algeron Johnson finished 6th and 7th also qualifying for the PSAC indoor championships in the event.
Davon Dutrieuille won the long jump with a mark of 6.65m (21'-10") a PSAC qualifying mark and finished 4th in the triple jump also qualifying for the PSAC championships in that event as well.
Jon Capps took home a second place finish in the high jump at 1.85m (6'-00.75") and
Algeron Johnson qualified for his 3rd PSAC event also clearing 1.85m (6'-00.75") good for 4th place on the day.
The women had 5th and 6th place showings in the 60m with
Jade Woodridge running 8.06 and
Alesha Herman running 8.16, Meagen Carter finished 3rd in the 800m 2:21.55 good for a PSAC spot in the late February Championship,
Chelsia Poole placed 6th,
Emily Dempsey 7th and
Megan Weinreber 8th in the event.
Alesha Herman brought home a 3rd place finish in the 200m running 26.43,
Sarah Taylor placed 3rd in the 3000m 10:50.66,
Deirdre Sheets placed 5th 11:03.41 and
Jackie Kleinschrodt finish 8th 11:13.93 in the 3000m. The women's 4x400m relay team of Meagen Carter,
Emily Dempsey,
Alesha Herman and
Angela McCowin finished 5th overall, the women's distance medley relay team of
Chelsia Poole,
Alyssa Brandis,
Emily Dempsey and
Sarah Taylor finished 2nd overall and qualified for the PSAC championships, Vicki Miller threw a season best 16.05m (52'-08") in the weight throw good for 2nd on the day,
Martina Milcic brought home a 4th place finish 14.36m (47'-01.50"),
Nichelle McMillan finished 4th in the long jump and
Alexis Hawkins finished 5th in the event,
Nichelle McMillan won the triple jump with a leap of 11.25m (36'-11.00"),
Shannon Powell finished 4th overall hitting a PSAC qualifying mark at 10.27m (33'-08.50") and
Alexis Hawkins finished 6th on the day in the triple jump.
Nicole Malara finished 4th in the high jump at 1.54m (5'.00.50") and
Shannon Powell finished tied for 7th at 1.49m (4'-10.50"). In the women's shot
Martina Milcic finished 4th overall 11.64m (38'-02.25") and Vicki Miller finished 8th at 11.04m (36'-02.75").
The men and women will be in action Saturday January 24th at the North Coast Open in Geneva, Ohio at the Spire Institute Center with events beginning at 10:00am.
