Windsor, Griffins Outlast Rock in Double OT

It took an extra ten minutes and some special play from David Windsor in the overtime sessions but the Griffins were able to come away with a thrilling 86-82 double overtime victory over visiting Slippery Rock on Wednesday evening.  Windsor led the Griffins with a team high 33 points, including 16 points in the two overtime sessions.  With the victory, the Griffins improve to 5-10 overall and 4-7 in PSAC play.  The Rock drops to 12-5 overall and 7-4 in PSAC play.

The Rock came out of the gates on fire, taking a quick 7-0 lead.  The Griffins then responded with a 9-3 run to cut the lead to 10-9.  Over the next six minutes, the Griffins would outscore the Rock 18-4 to take a 13 point lead at 27-14 with 8:28 to play in the half.  A layin from Tyler Bowling gave the Griffins a 31-20 lead with just over five minutes left in the half.  The Rock outscored the Griffins 8-3 the rest of the way and trailed the Griffins 34-28 at the half.

The Griffins came out on fire in the second half and cooled off the Rock's shooting as they built their lead to 18 points, 48-30 just four and a half minutes into the second half.  Noah Davis then hit a jumper to give the Griffins a 50-32 lead with 14:46 left in the second half.  Seton Hill would not score another point until the 9:04 mark of the half with the Rock cutting the SHU lead to 52-44.  Another bucket from Davis gave SHU a 54-50 lead.  A put back from Spencer Casson pushed the lead back to 3 after the Rock drained a three.  SRU took a 60-58 lead before Davis completed a three point play to give SHU the lead back at 61-60 with 4:57 to play.  David Windsor put SHU back ahead 65-64 with a jumper with 1:05 left in the half.  After the Griffins missed the front end of a 1 and 1, SRU did the same.  Seton Hill missed another 1 and 1 with 19 second to play and the Rock hit 1 of 2 free throws with 4 seconds left to tie the score at 65 and send the game into overtime.

Slippery Rock scored the first three points of overtime before David Windsor caught fire and hit the first of his four baskets in the first overtime period to trim the lead to 68-67 with 3:24 to play.  After the Rock hit a bucket, back to back baskets from Windsor put SHU ahead 71-70 with 2:02 to play.  The Rock retook the lead 72-71 at the 1:36 mark before Windsor put SHU ahead with another jumper at the 1:18 mark.  Both teams missed shots on their next possession and the Rock hit 1 of 2 free throws after a controversial foul call on the Griffins to tie the score at 73 with 12 seconds to play.  The Griffins could not hit a last second shot and the game went into a second overtime period tied at 73. 

Kameron Taylor hit 1 of 2 free throws to open the second OT period.  The Rock answered with a three to take a 76-74 lead.  Windsor hit 1 of 2 free throws and after a defensive stop Casson slammed home a feed from Damjan Sredanovic to give SHU a 77-76 lead with 3:06 to play.  The Griffin defense then got two stops and a jumper and free throw from Windsor gave SHU a 80-76 lead with 1:57 to play in the second OT period.  The Rock then hit 1 of 2 free throws before Casson scored on a layin from Windsor that gave SHU a five point advantage at 82-77 with just over a minute to play.  SRU then hit a basket and after a Griffin turnover, Casson blocked a Rock shot with Windsor being fouled off the rebound.  Windsor hit both free throws to push the lead to 84-79 with 35 seconds left.  Casson got another block but SHU turned it over and the Rock hit a three to cut the lead to 84-82 with 13 seconds left.  Windsor then iced the game with two free throws, giving the Griffins the 86-82 win. 

David Windsor led the Griffins with a team high and career high 33 points, including 16 in the two overtime sessions.  Windsor added 6 assists.  Noah Davis added 18 points and 8 rebounds.  Spencer Casson added another double double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.  He also finished with 7 blocks.  Kameron Taylor and Damjan Sredanovic each tossed in 9 points.  Sredanovic added 8 rebounds.

Seton Hill will look to make it three in a row on Saturday when they host California in a PSAC West battle.  Tip is set for 3 PM.
