The Griffins made their first trip to the PSAC Semifinals as they battled California (PA) at Gannon University in Erie.
The teams were tied at 34 at the halftime break but CalU outscored the Griffins 43-29 in the second half as they advanced to the PSAC Final with a 77-63 victory over the Griffins. SHU falls to 18-13 overall.
SHU got off to a slow start from the field as they trailed CalU 17-4 over the first six minutes of the contest. The Vulcans pushed their lead to 26-13 on a three pointer with 8:30 to play in the half.
Dean Simos then took over for the Griffins as he scored 10 of the next 12 points for Seton Hill as the Griffins cut the CalU lead to 26-25 with five minutes to play in the half. A pair of
Kedrick Curtis free throws gave SHU a 27-26 lead.
Camden Brewer hit a three pointer with 48 seconds left in the half to tie the game at 34.
Layups from
Dimitrios Sklavenitis and Curtis gave SHU a 38-36 lead with 18:16 left in the second half. CalU answered back with a 9-1 run to take a 45-40 lead with 15:44 to play. The Vulcans continued that run with another 15-4 run that pushed their advantage to 60-44 with 9:43 to play. SHU used a 9-2 run to trim the lead to 68-57 with five minutes to play. A three from Brewer cut the lead to ten with just under three minutes to play. CalU scored the final four points of the contest.
Simos led the Griffins with a double double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Curtis finished with 16 points. Brewer also reached double figures with 11.
