Seton Hill hosted Slippery Rock on Monday evening in the first round of the PSAC Tournament. The game was the first time the Griffins have hosted a PSAC Tournament matchup in Greensburg.
The Griffins jumped out to a 43-32 halftime lead and defeated the Rock 78-70 to advance to the PSAC Quarterfinals. SHU is now 17-12 overall.
SHU jumped out to an early 8-2 lead behind three pointers from Dimitrios Sklavenitits and
Rashaad Williams. That was a lead the Griffins would hold for the entire first half. A dunk from
Kedrick Curtis and a layin from
Gabe Gillespie gave SHU a 10 point lead at 25-15 with 11:24 to play in the half. SHU closed the half on a 7-0 run as they took a 43-32 lead into the halftime break.
Back to back threes from Curtis and Sklavenitis pushed the Griffin lead to 49-34 just over a minute into the second half. A three point play from Sklavenitis gave SHU a 56-44 lead with 13:30 to play. The Rock then responded with a 16-1 run as they took a 60-57 lead with 9:33 left. Williams answered with a three to tie the score at 60. Neither team led by more than three points with the Rock holding a 68-67 lead at the under four minute timeout. SHU then scored the next eight points to build a 75-68 lead with 37 seconds to play.
Simos led SHU with 23 points. Curtis had a double double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Williams and Sklavenitis added 13 points each.
SHU will travel to Millersville for a PSAC Quarterfinal on Wednesday evening.
