Box Score Seton Hill hit the road for their first road contest of the season on Saturday afternoon when they made the long trek to Lock Haven, PA for a PSAC Crossover matchup. SHU trailed 10-7 at the half but outscored the Bald Eagles 20-9 in the second half for a 27-16 road victory. The Griffins improve to 1-1 on the season.
Seton Hill took the opening kickoff and drove 74 yards in 8 plays to take a quick 7-0 lead.
Drew Jackson capped the drive with a 25 yard touchdown pass to
Eric Brown that gave the Griffins the first score of the contest. After each team exchanged punts, the Griffin defense forced their first of four turnovers on the day as
Josh Falatovich recovered a fumble on his own 16 yard line. The Griffin defense forced another turnover at the end of the first quarter when
Donato Clemente intercepted a Bald Eagle pass at his own four yard line with 31 seconds left in the first quarter.
Lock Haven tied the score at seven on a two play, 37 yard drive with 12:38 left in the second half when they connected on a 36 yard touchdown pass. Falatovich intercepted his first pass of the contest when he picked off the Bald Eagle pass at the 50 yard line and returned it six yards back to the LHU 44 yard line. The Griffins drive stalled at the 26 yard and the Griffins turned the ball over on downs with 7:06 left in the half. The Bald Eagles then drove 50 yards in 10 plays and hit a 42 yard field goal with 2:16 left in the first half. The Bald Eagles entered the halftime break with a 10-7 lead.
Turnovers were the answer for the start of the second half. After the opening kick, Lock Haven fumbled on its first play from scrimmage when
Speiser Alani forced a fumble and Falatovich recovered a fumble at the Lock Haven 39 yard line. Jackson was then intercepted on the next play and Lock Haven took over at their own 20 yard line. After forcing a three and out, the Griffins drove all the way to the Lock Haven one yard line but could not punch the ball in, turning the ball over on downs. The Griffin defense then forced another three and out setting up a touchdown drive for the Griffins. SHU started their TD drive at the Lock Haven 40 yard line and went 40 yards in nine plays with
Khalil Howard scoring from one yard out to give the Griffins a 13-10 lead with 2:28 left in the third quarter. After another LHU three and out,
Malik Scott returned the punt back 51 yards to extend the Griffins lead to 20-10 with 1:16 left in the third quarter.
The Griffins first drive of the fourth quarter was a 14 play, 80 yard drive with
Brent Blacharczyk scoring from six yards out, extending the Griffins lead to 27-10 with 8:09 left in the contest. Lock Haven answered with an 11 play, 73 yard drive to trim the lead to 27-16 with 5:05 left in the fourth quarter. The Griffin offense was able to run over four minutes off the clock on their next drive salting the game away.
Brandon Stout led the Griffin rushing game with 85 yards on 21 carries.
Alex Attia led the Griffin defense with 8 total tackles including 3 sacks. Seton Hill held a 23-13 advantage in first downs and outgained the Bald Eagles 395-296.
The Griffins return to action next Saturday when they host West Chester at 6 PM. It will be Homecoming on the hill.
